HarmonicaBruce, I'm all for having pets in the store, etc., BUT those damn dogs must keep to themselves. Walking over for a sniff is out of line. What would that pet owner have done if you went up close and personal to get a whiff of that yummy Ice Blue Aqua Velva? I bet he would have a whole different tune. And his dogs might, too, because they know how inappropriate and scary that can be. Even a dog knows this, but for some reason people have it in their minds that it is OK. I often tell or politely ask the owner to keep the dog out of my personal space. Then I go to management if they don't comply. Service dogs aren't allowed to do that, either, and can be asked to leave. Not even a service dog is entitled to run amok. No matter how polite that dog may be, running amok is not allowed.
Every once in a while someone will call the cops on me because I have my dog off leash, but law enforcement never does anything because I've never done anything wrong. Busy bodies who make it their life mission to control other people for no reason are at the other end of the spectrum. I'm surprised I don't have a pet peeve about them. I guess it is because they almost never have power over me unless I let them. However, a friend of mine did get a dangerous dog ticket because a loose dog attacked her on-leash dog and her dog supposedly (maybe, maybe not) bit the owner of the other dog who had jumped into the fray. On a different day that same loose dog went after my dog. Law enforcement was involved, yet I didn't get a ticket or anything even though both dogs were off leash.
