Today I was offered (and I accepted) some temp work at my local gym. I will be working the grave-yard shift at this 24 hour gym, which has a few pluses that made me think about how well it works while urban-camping.

1) I get paid!
2) Free gym membership (I was paying for it) and showers
3) I can park there during daylight hours without risk of LEO harassment
4) I will be inside working overnights, so again, no LEO harassment
5) The gym also offers free Wifi

While I am not necessarily in need of any of these (although more pay is nice) I thought it was worthy of bringing up here for all your urban-campers. You might want to check with your local 24-hour business regarding overnight work.

An interesting possibility. I'm curious as to why it's only temp work? Do they have a promotion going on or is someone going on vacation?

Congratulations!!!! Ha H ah ah
Let's see if I get this straight: parking, income, water, showers HAAAAAAAAAA! It's just like working at a campground in the city! Again, congratulations!

@slow2day - Ah, my (online) business tales care of me. Normally, I treasure my freedom to roam more than a few extra dollars, but since I was planning to stick around here for 3-4 months anyway (My son's B-day and end of school) it wasn't much of an extra commitment. I was brought on with the understanding that "at some time after July" I will be heading back out on the road.

Cool beans, i work the graveyard, only bad thing is in heat you can't sleep the coolest times.

@Van-Tramp: Oh, I see. I was just trying to figure if the gyms in general had much turnover or had some kind of seasonal fluctuations so there would be that type of temp thing available much. Probably varies by locale. Sounds like a good gig!

BTW: Does a person have to be an 'athletic trainer' type to get hired?:s

I believe that the late-night work does have a high turnover, so there is good possibility of positions opening up all times of the year.

There are other positions other than the 'trainer' types and gyms are not the only place to consider. What about overnight stocker at Walmart or grocery stores? Or with the right equip you can be an overnight cleaner at many local places.

I did overnight for 3 years doing 3x 12 hr shifts. It was sort of the reason I ended up van dwelling, because I had 4 days off each week to do what ever.

It was pretty much the perfect vandweller job, because the days I worked I pretty much drove to a specific spot and slept with out any worries of being run off. Then my days off I was able to travel all over New England.

The draw back was it was New England and way too freaking cold to stay past October, not to mention all the snow they had this year.
