Opinions please

Hi all,
I am looking at a 1987 Laze Daze and would like your opinions...good and bad.

It is listed on RV Trader, $6,000.00 in North Hollywood.  I can't look at it until Friday.

I know the age is considerable and the mileage is a factor (88,000) when thinking of repairs, etc.

It's the 2nd owner - they know the original owners who had it built.  They don't have the time to use it is the reason for selling.

The owner is very prompt in answering my emails so any questions that are pertinent to ask please bring them on.

I also have to consider storage as I live in an apartment  - that's an additional $95 per month.

I am not in any hurry to purchase, but also don't want to pass on something that might be a treasure.   I would update the interior...way too 80's for me.

Thanks for the feedback - that one looked like it maybe had water damage in the ceiling in some of the pictures?

For 6k, I'd definitely go look at it. If what I saw on rv trader is it, it looks to be in nice shape. Was it in so. Cal. All its life? Is it a 5.7? If so, not the most powerful, but one of the most reliable engines ever made! And---- it can be worked on or replaced by almost anyone, anywhere! Good luck and p.s.- don,t be surprised if its gone by Friday.

I agree and wanted to look at it today, but Friday was what the seller offered.  And yes, I have the cash to purchase.

I have asked engine and chassis questions as well as maintenance and leakage issues and am waiting for the answers.  I hope it has the 5.7 if that is a good one!

IMHO The reason I keep a truck with a slide-in cabover is because you can find them cheap and if it becomes too problematic just get another one, you always have the truck.
It just opens up a lot more options.

This is a link to a buying checklist: http://changingears.com/rv-checklist-inspection.shtml Lazy Daze is a good manufacturer, but with age, the care and maintenance given will be a bigger consideration. Generally, if they aren't taking care of the inside or outside, they weren't maintaining the engine either. Also, pay attention to the age of the tires as they are expensive to replace. RV appliances can easily cost double or triple to replace especially if you can't install them yourself. With the age of this unit, they generally don't sell that quickly. This could be a great unit that was taken care of. See if they have maintenance records you can look at.

Update on the information from the seller:

Engine is a Ford 350, she doesn't know about the chassis or if it has overdrive. Her husband is out of town so I may get more definitive answers from him when he returns.

There was a leak at the front, but when they bought it they replaced all the vents and seals. She is sending me a picture of the damage. I know this is to be taken very seriously as who knows how long it was leaking before they bought it. It was an older couple who owned it originally and he passed away so am not sure if the leak occurred after his passing.

I was the first to respond and show interest so she is giving me the opportunity to look at it first. She is getting alot of interest and response.
