I neglected to post my intro post for my first post.  I'm doing research for a seasonal minimum build reno for a first gen (no stow seats) Toyota Sienna. It must be for two person sleep. It's our first baby steps into future travels. As someone who still takes great comfort from the illusion of security. I'm waiting out the years until retirement. This will be our way of testing the waters with low investment. My mother is selling us her van which has 200k miles on it. Part of the reason we're doing minimum build is due to limited build skills and if the van dies, we might just let it go. Over time, we might put more into something bigger for longer travels but it would likely be limited to seasonal arm and summer travel. I figure with minimum $$$ this is a good test. I want to learn more about jackerys and removable things that will add to the comfort. Trying to figure how much to spend on powerbanks.

I'm glad this is a resource available to folks.

Thanks!
LG

Be sure to do all the recommended maintenance on the van especially the timing belt if it has one. They are really good vehicles if taken care of.

Welcome to the CRVL forums! To help you learn the ins and outs of these forums, this "Tips, Tricks and Rules" post lists some helpful information to get you started.

Most of our rules boil down to two simple over-riding principles: 1) What you post should provide good information (like your introductory post), and 2) Any response to someone else's post should make them feel glad they are part of this forum community.

We look forward to hearing more from you.

If I were doing a bare bones minivan build, I would remove the rear seats, put the front passenger seat on a swivel platform, remove the center console for a place to put a fridge, or cooler, get a aerodynamic roof top carrier for storage, and build a 2x4 bed frame just tall enough to fit milk crates under it for additional storage.

Solidwoodworx only works on a few different vehicles and they’re not doing work anymore but take a look at their website. A carpenter or you can make it so that you can put the seats back ie not permanent and there’s a good video on YouTube where this guy built a platform on his CRV with shelving to the top of the car. All of this stuff is removable. In March (he promised) I’m going to get something similar to what Solidwoodworx has-I had the ideas just didn’t know you could do it.
You can do a search on YouTube on SUV/minivan buildouts. And Bob and Suzanne have excellent videos on living in cars.
