I was online looking for a 11 pound propane tank on Home Depots sight, when I came upon a refillable one pound DOT certified tank.  I believe it ran around $12 and there is a kit to use larger tanks for refill. I have never messed with refilling the disposable one pound green tanks not trusting there valves. I might pick one up and give it a try I hope the method for refilling is simpler than the green bottles.

It might be easier but I've always wondered why anyone would bother. If you're carrying the 20 lb tank AND 1 lb bottles AND the refill kit it kind of defeats the purpose of carrying the small bottles...just hook up the 20 lb tank to whatever you want to use and be done with it.

I admit to carrying a single 1 lb disposable bottle but it's for emergency use in case I run out of propane in the 20 lb tank and need to use the Mr. Buddy to stay warm.

I use 11lb tanks with my Wave 6. Hated to pay more for them, but I find them more manageable.

Yes, portability for a heater, cooking outside, lots of reasons to fill small bottles from the bigger one.

Just don't do it with the coleman-style disposables in a mobile context.

The ones designed for refilling are 98x safer.

Anyone finding a working source for Worthington brand, please post.

Note Flame-whatever had a recall, if you see them on CL or eBay, test it well before using.

Yes, Flame King.

New ones sold by a big corporate source should be fine.

Ideally one with a good returns policy.

No excuse to refill the disposables anymore guys!

Get the refill kit, or at least the valve bit, dozens of varieties online.

You do **not** want to visit your propane dealer with a bunch of these at 40-60¢ each

The frame / rack that hold your BBQ tank upside down can be improvised or DIY, but pretty sure the kit's not too dear anyway.

Obviously only to be used outdoors.

Jamie's channel has a " how to " video on refilling small tanks ...Enigmatic Fanatic ???

I have been using the flame king tanks and refill kit for about two years and they have worked. It takes a couple of times filling them to get it down. I consider it better than tossing the non-refillable ones that are considered hazardous waste. Likely cheaper over the long haul too. I use the to run a Coleman grill-n-go grill and a Cameco little-red-campfire.
