This is wut happens when I'm feeling bored and helpful. A friend of mine has managed to get herself 'stuck' in a (crappy beige) camper in an RV park an REALLY needs to get on the road again. Well, she saw this '89 Triple E Regency class c MH with a 7.3 l IDI diesel (blown head gasket(s)) w. the following description:"Clean inside, 4 new tires, 4 new batteries, new skylight, new flooring, rebuilt transmission, solar panel, new microwave, sleeps 4, double sink. 7.3 Diesel engine needs repair." for $1000 CDN.

Well, she couldn't scrape up anywhere near enough cash (disability), so I said that I'd buy it, fix it up, and then sell it to here at cost. She could then sell her trailer and, once sold, pay me and move on in! I figure that, worse comes to worse, I can part it out for more than I bought it for or, having repaired/replaced the engine, could sell it for a hefty chunk of change. It's one sweet lookin' rig, mostly fibreglass, and insulated for Canadian winters, even having insulating foam applied under the floor. The tranny, besides being rebuilt, is a 4sp auto (3+ lockup TC).

Anyway, that's gonna be my new project, repairing the engine; just a sucker for punishment, I am. ..Willy.

That's very, very kind of you Willy. You are giving someone a little miracle.

DH, an ex-diesel mechanic, says to have fun. The. 7.3 is a good engine. Being a class C makes it easier to get at. Still, it can be quite a job, even tho you don't need specialized tools. He would get a quote on getting it done, but then he got his fill of it when he did it for a living.

Tools I have, specialized and otherwise, and about 2 months to get it done. At the very least it's gonna be a 'learning experience'. ..Willy.

willy, you are a nice person and a good friend! the snow in the small photo reminds me of living in s,d,. i went outside one night with a wind chill factor of -51 didn't take long to see that!! texasjbird

That pic looks a lot like what mine looks right now!
I think I can still hear sleigh bells....................

Before you do anything else check the front windows on the cabover for leaks.

It takes a real nice person to do something like that , I just added a reputation point to your profile , you sure deserve it !

That's a top of the line manufacturer so well worth the effort in the end. Rare here in the US though.

Gonna tow it to the storage compound today an start tearing into it. Temps hovering around freezing here; glad I bought that catalytic heater now. Gonna use it as a 'shop heater' in the RV while I work on it. Really really hoping it's just blown head gaskets I've gotta deal with cuz, if the block is holed, I'm pretty well sunk. ..Willy.

Best of luck with the block...you're a good soul.

Doesn't look like the block is holed. Checked the oil and no water in it. Engine turned over a few times, so no hydaulic lock happening. That engine, with all the stuff hanging off it, sure fills the engine compartment up! Damn.. used to my stepvan with all that room under-hood. ..Willy.

I had to come back at least to say... You are the bestest human!!

I will leave the details up to you my friend but suffice it to say I will drive it out of the compound tomorrow night to sleep in.

A real Heart warming story, and now we know who the rig is for?  ;-)

Is the the same Hippiechk from a few years ago? Welcome back!!!

And Willy, Kharma's going to find you. You might be in line for a giant lottery win or something.

Unfortunately, both heads were cracked. Couldn't find a used set for love or money in BC, and ebay woulda set me back $300 per for used. Ended up getting a used engine from a wrecker for $700. Swapping a diesel in van is something I DON'T ever wanna do again.. what a nightmare. ..Willy.

The nightmare is semi-officially over Willy buddy. The title was swapped today into my name today, insurance is on...its mine!! There is still some tweaking to do & solar to put the rest on...can you believe it came with basic functional solar too?!

I love, love, love my little rolling house!!!

As previously stated, Willy you are the bestest human! Thank you absolutely does not cover it & I can't even say that some day I will get even for this one!

Just know my friend, I ever break down on the side of the road...its on you!!! *laugh*

And yes, its me back! Hi everyone!! *smile*

*Hugs!!!*

It's solar upgrade day!! Oh yay!!! I am going to steam rice & whip something up in the blender just for the funk of it!

30+ years of full-time, is there anything you can't do to a rig Willy?
