There are now some choices in shelf-stable milk alternatives. My favorite is Silk Vanilla Soy Milk. I prefer their Almond milk but it is usually easier to find the soy in the small containers -- I think they are 6 ounces?
The small ones come in a package of 6 and they have the collapsible straws attached to each "box" --- like a kid's juice box. I use the straw to puncture a hole and then expand the hole as much as possible. That let's me pour it into my cereal bowl.
Frankly, the vanilla vs "original" flavor is more like a milk shake...so any not used on cereal is great to drink.
I use a package up within a couple of weeks (I like easy stuff like cereal), so I'm not sure how van temps in the summer would affect them for a longer term. I just try to keep them shaded in a food bin that sits on the floor where it is coolest.
