Hello, my name is Tammy and I'm located in NC. I have my budget in place and currently looking for a minivan or cargo van. I'm learning a lot from the forums and YouTube videos. Any suggestion's will be welcome. Single gal with a cat looking to get back to simple living. I lived on a sailboat,and houseboat in south Florida for several years, so I'm used to small living spaces. Looking forward to the day I can leave NC for the west coast.

Glad to  hear from another feline lady. Can you please share how you travel with kitty?  Do you place kitty in a carrier while you are driving? Tks

I used to travel with two cats in a car, and they both had their own carriers. I took them for walks on leashes. It was really hard on them. This lasted 2 months while I was between homes.

I guess I'm just gonna have to try it with my kitty. The leash and harness sounds good as my boy likes to be outside. In what ways was it hard on your Kitty's? Tks

They didn't get walked as much as they should have. One cat slipped out of a collar and we put a harness on her after that scary incident. Fortunately she stopped running and came back to us. She was antagonistic to the other cat, who was willing to be friendly toward her. They may have been communicating with each other but it wasn't on a friendly basis, at least from her end. They eventually got to live in a nice home again, but I'm sure it was two months of terror for them. I really regret that. We were in a very small car, myself, two children, and two cats.

Hi JT, how you gonna deal with the shedding in your living space? I find it impossible to keep ahead of the hair in my apt. Please keep in touch as your experiences I can learn from. What type of rig will you be in?

I have a dog that sheds terribly, and I use a little rechargeable hand vac every day when traveling.

Before I had that, I shook rugs and used a hand held brush. She sleeps with me, so I shake my comforter out each day, too.

Leaving her behind is not an option, but nor is living amongst all the hair.

tammyg, I'm not full or even part-time yet; though she took her first camping trip recently. Initially, she was in her unzipped carrier. By the time we reached our camping site, she was under the passenger seat. It took a long time to coax her from under there. Returning, her carrier was zipped.

I kinda sensed what travelaround stated. In the house she is relaxed getting her exercise. I haven't figured a way for her to safely get her exercise since she's uncomfortable in the netted "safety" containments I'd purchased for her. I understand since they probably feel like cages to her, and insecure at that since they're flimsy. It would be easy for a bigger animal to rip through.

the hair could be great insulation LOL.... it will be a headache to keep up, but will do away with any carpeting and have wood floors... much easier to keep up with.

I will be running a 2001 Dodge Ram 2500 -V10 extended cab (or what dodge calls a 4 door) and in the process of looking for a 24-28 foot Toy Hauler so I can carry my 1988 Softail custom with me.

keep us all up to date on your progress also and the main thing is have fun...
