Hello my name is Linda and I've  lived in KC,Mo for a long time. Was born and raised in a small town about 50 miles north of here.  I went to the RTR last January.Been wanting to move to a warmer climate but didn't know how I could afford it. I'm retired and live on a small pension with social security and everything is getting so expensive. Everyday I feel like i'm drowning. After going to Ariz last January I talked to a few people and realized I wanted to be a Nomad and not have to pay out all this rent money.  I have a jeep I will be living in and been trying to gradually buy some of the things I will need to live. Didn't have any camping supplies so I've had to start from scratch.  Yes I am nervous on safety and trying to figure out what I really need to bring and not to bring and I have limited space. I told my friends i'm coming out of my comfort zone. After I get there I want to do some saving of money and then do a little  traveling. Hopefully meet people and maybe travel with other people.  I love nature and will enjoy the beautiful country side they have in Ariz. and New Mexico.  I have a Garmin so hopefully I will be able to find places to camp. Been thinking about staying in Quartzsite, Ariz. in the long term for now till I get to know the ropes .
Does anyone know how safe it is in Quartzsite long term for a woman ?  I will be coming in Oct. and looking forward to the trip.

                                   Thanks Linda  :)

Welcome, Linda! I'm a newbie too so I will defer to the more experienced. Just wanted to say welcome!

Hi Linda!
Welcome to the forum. I too am a relative newbie. I don't have any experience living in the southwestern US, but I have watched a ton of RVing videos on YouTube. The answer you are looking for might be there.
On YouTube on the cheaprvliving channel Bob does a series of live broadcasts where he talks about current events and answers viewers questions. I've never seen it "live" but he records it for YouTube so you can watch it later. He also has in-depth interviews and home tours of other nomads and their vehicles/rig setups. Also on the cheaprvliving YouTube channel you can find videos on almost every RVing or vehicle living related subject. (Solar, storage, tents, toilets, showering/hygiene, pets, cooking, and weather to name just a few) Checkout the cheaprvliving video about fears. It's good stuff.
Hope that helps,
Angie

Hello and welcome Linda! I'm a Jeep person too, though not full time as of yet. What Jeep model Jeep are you using?

Welcome to the CRVL forums jeeptraveler! Quartzsite is a very good place to stay over the winter. It will probably still be hot in October and will warm up fast in early spring so it's not a good place to stay year round. You have a lot of other options though. Bob did a series of videos on where to camp all year without driving long distances to find good weather - https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCAj7O3LCDbkIR54hAn6Zz7A/search?query=snowbird

There's a camping limit of 2 weeks in Quartzsite. That can be solved by rotating to camping spots at other BLM districts. There are many places to camp in Arizona so you won't run out of camping spots. https://freecampsites.net/#!Arizona&query=region

As far as I know the area around Quartzsite is very safe. I recommend buying as little as possible until you actually go camping and see what you need. If possible go to some state parks or other established campgrounds over the summer to get some experience before setting out on your adventure - https://freecampsites.net/#!Missouri&query=region

Good luck! Let us know how it goes. :)

Hello, this is my first time having a jeep, it's a 2018 jeep Cherokee and I love it !! I really like the backup camera !! I will be full time in October.  When u go full time will u have a camper ? I eventually want to get a cargo trailer but I've never pulled anything before and the one I want is made in Florida. I saw it on a youtube video.
Thanks for responding and have a great day !     Linda

Hello and thanks for your response . I have done camping in the past but it's been awhile and always enjoyed it. This will be my first time full time and one of these nights i'm going to sleep in my car to c what it's like and get comfortable with it. My lease is up in Oct. and that is why I will be coming then. I'm tired of the cold !!
What part of the country r u from ?

Good choice. Your Jeep will let you get away from the crowds if you desire. I am undecided on a full time rig right now. I will want a 4x4 with ample ground clearance. The woods and shorelines of northern Mi will be my summer home. Some of the cargo trailer conversions are very nice. You can learn how to pull a trailer pretty quickly. Backing up with one can be tricky the first few times though.

That's why I bought the jeep so I could get off the beaten path. I like people also like my privacy and like for it to be quiet at night.
