Hello everyone I just getting started with the whole van life idea. I always been interested in tiny house movement. However that requires quite a bit. Somewhere along the lines researching that I found YouTube videos van living it intrigued (hopefully that word I wanted autocorrect  for the win). I'm considering trading in my jeep and starting  the journey. However  I dont know best way to get started. Obviously need a van but there are so many options.  Any good pointer out there

Welcome William...

I started by researching tiny homes too... then realized for the same money (or less) I could have a tiny home with an engine that would take me around the USA. So... about a year ago I joined this forum, and now I have a van I'm living in and am trying to move out of my apartment by the 20th of this month. I've given away about 80% of what I owned... still working on it.

I hope you enjoy your time on this forum getting ideas for your next big adventure.

Welcome to the CRVL forums William89! You'll probably look at a lot of junk before you find the right vehicle. Be patient and keep looking. Keep us updated!

To help you learn the ins and outs of these forums, this "Tips, Tricks and Rules" post lists some helpful information to get you started.

Most of our rules boil down to two simple over-riding principles: 1) What you post should provide good information (like your introductory post), and 2) Any response to someone else's post should make them feel glad they are part of this forum community.

We look forward to hearing more from you.

Hi Wiliam- Tiny Houses is where I found the van life/ RV life channels, too. I actually rented a Tiny House to stay in for 3 days and while it was fun, the thought of pulling it around just to change locations wasn't so feasible.

Have you thought about towing a lightweight trailer that a Jeep could handle, like maybe a teardrop? I know they can't tow much....

I think you'll have fun figuring out your way to the right set-up for you! What part of the country are you in? Any pressure to get out of a sticks-and-bricks and on the road, or can you take your time while you peruse your options ?

I'm looking forward to hearing about your learnings and what's working for you- Take care, Flower Girl (in the Northeast for now)

Welcome, William. Looked at RV living first, veered off into tiny houses (still love 'em) and then ended up back here looking at van living instead over seven years, lol!

You'll find great folks and lots of information, so dig in!

Tiny Houses are not very practical for someone who wants to travel, they weigh alot, and cost alot, and have no stealth aspect going for them.

If you have "Tiny House" money to spend, look at the newer Ford Transit high top vans, or even the Ram Promaster,or Mercedes Benz Sprinter vans. These all have far more room than a standard cargo van, and have warranties also.

If I were looking for a van right now, this would be my choice;

or, for the more budget , and DIY minded folks;
