I've been lurking for a while, so I figure it's time to say hello!

I'm really looking forward to the RTR next month. I've never camped in the desert, so this will be a whole new experience for me! There's a small chance that I'll be nursing my sister through kidney surgery, but if not, I'll be there. Looking forward to meeting all of you.

I drive a 2000 Ford E150 van and pull a 10-foot molded fiberglass trailer. I'm just sorting things out with storage etc, so this trip is kind of a first run. Exciting!

Welcome to CRVL,   :)

I like the set up you have and thinking about doing my E 350 similar.
Is your 10 ft trailer a utility or set up to live in ?

Welcome to the CRVL forums LouiseE! The desert is different from the beach or forest but beautiful in it's own way. Hope you can make it to the RTR!

Best wishes for your sister.

To help you learn the ins and outs of these forums, this "Tips & Tricks" post lists some helpful information to get you started. We look forward to hearing more from you.

Welcome aboard the good ship CRVL Louise !
If an old sea dog like me can love the desert anyone can.
Maybe it's that lizard blood transfusion I had a while back !
Skuh kuh kuh kuh kuh

Welcome Louise, I  hope you will be at the R.T.R. this will be my first time there also, but not my first time to the dessert. I hope your sister will be fine. See you there!!

Thank you so much for the welcome! I am really looking forward to meeting people next month. I'll have a look at the 'Tips and Tricks' section in the meantime.

The trailer is a vintage travel trailer. I've spent the summer stripping out nonworking junk and repairing holes -- somebody really  got overenthusiastic with a drill! Probably several someones. Luckily, fiberglass is easy to work with. I'll know more about what I might like to replace by spring.

Louise what kind of little egg do you have? I'm awfully fond of those campers and have one sitting here I need to work on.

This one's a U Haul. I think there were about 2000 made in the early 80s. I looked a long time to find one with the frame in good condition, because I didn't want to deal with that straight off. I don't have the skill -- or the physical strength! Most of the original stuff -- ice box, battery, small solar panel, heater, water tank, lots of the wiring -- was gone when I got it, which is ok with me. Now that it's watertight (ok, one window will need more work), I'm moving my tent camping gear in for this winter. I'll know what else I might want by spring.

What do you have?

The U-Haul eggs were made by Burro, in San Diego. They went out of business around 1999; very nice trailer. My wife and I almost bought one; had an order placed with a deposit as they were shutting the doors and throwing away the keys. We did get our deposit refunded.

Good luck to you and enjoy this blog; Ive only been here about a month and can't stay away!

Welcome. Take lip balm and moisturizer to the desert. We lived north of Tucson for 6 years and staying hydrated and moisturized will make your visit much more pleasant. The fiberglass molded TTs do seem to live on decade after decade. Enjoy the RTR!

Welcome and best of luck with your sister.

The little travel trailer sounds awesome.   Have any pictures of it by chance?

I have never really stayed in the dessert either.   Driven through a few times so I am looking forward to making it to the RTR.

Louise, I have a little Playpac. It needs some work which I'm no longer capable of doing. I'm going to have to hire the work out because, even though I plan on getting a Class B or B+van soon, I still want to keep it. I can tow it with anything. I even can tow it around my property with my little four wheeler when I want to move it.

I know the u hauls. They are known for being solidly built.

Hello and Welcome!

On your other thread I noticed that you are not calling us "older" until we are past 65 yo.

That is the best news I have heard in a long time.
I am retired and working (?! it's America), and thanks to you I am not "older " yet!!

They would be three years older now as this thread was from 2015.
Some of the people may have moved on, so if you don't get a reply, they are not ignoring you.
