I'm starting my adventure in April in Ontario, Canada. Where parks don't open until the end of may. Do I not use the toilet until then? And go outside? And when a park opens do I pay them to empty me? Help!!

If the doors are not locked, then I imagine the bathroom is open? Your in Canada so I'm not sure if you have park rangers doing patrol. If there are rangers or the equivalent, I have found them to be OK authority peeps. Helpful with information in the local area.

Finding a dump station before the parks open will certainly be a bit of a problem.

Here's a listing of dump stations in Ontario for you:  http://www.sanidumps.com/rvdumpsregion.php?region=5

The other problem you face is that if you do use them before the weather warms up, it's more likely than not that you're going to be facing overnight temperatures that will freeze your tanks, particularly if there is only a small amount of liquid in them. The valves and pipes are especially vulnerable because they're exposed and contain small amounts of liquid.

If you're valves are frozen DO NOT try to force them. They WILL break.

Most winter campers turn to using heavy duty plastic bags inside the toilet with either kitty litter or sawdust - basically they turn the toilet in to a Luggable Loo. Don't plan on showering and carry a jug, funnel and plastic dishpan for washing dishes.

You probably also don't want your water system in use either because it will freeze as well.

As to what you do when you do get to empty them, no one empties them for you. Read up on how to empty your tanks, because there are ways to do it and ways not to do it.

Parks include emptying your tanks and refilling the fresh water tank in the price of the camping fee. If you're not camped there then most all of them charge between $10 and $20. for using their facilities to dump.

Haha, now I remember why I don't go back to Ontario before the end of April... :D

Instead of looking for parks when you need to empty your holding tanks try truck stops or municipal sanitary plants. Many will have frost free water systems that allow them to stay opened all year. http://www.sanidumps.com/sanidumps_cdn_on.php

If you're going to be staying in your RV over the winter you may not be able to use your water or holding tanks at all depending on the construction of the motorhome and the amount of insulation. Canadian RVs are usually insulated much better that US RVs but you'll still need to be careful and keep it well heated to avoid problems. If you can't use the water system wet wipes and a bucket toilet are the way to go.

Looks like Almost There beat me to posting! :-D

Just a word of a caution, good antifreeze and do not use a radiant heat lamp to keep black tank from melting as most black tanks have too much surface, this coming from some one that has melted a hole in one.
