I’m think of buying a runaway camper.  I have a 4 cylinder Nissan Frontier.  Does anyone use a 4 cylinder as their tow vehicle with a runaway camper ?

Welcome to the CRVL forums Moonshiner! One of the models is light enough to be towed by a motorcycle or compact car. My concern would be the lack of room to stand up. Can you see one in person and spend some time inside to decide if the small space is a problem?

Welcome, Moonshiner!

I was just at the Runaway office yesterday! The model I liked was the Rouser as I can stand up in it. But they don't offer a large rear door or an extra side door as they do in the other models.....yet! I was told they try to do something new each year, so maybe by the time I retire in 4 years......

Their trailers are well built and reasonably priced. Having air conditioning here in the south is a necessity, not a luxery!

welcome,

it's really not the number of cylinders but the gearing. a 4 banger with freeway gears ain't goin to cut it.

my recommendation would be to rent a similar size trailer, weigh it down to your anticipated load and see how it does. make sure youtake it up some mountains. BTW there are no mountains back east only hills. just kidding but you get the point. highdesertranger

Have you considered a 5x8 cargo trailer that could be used for other purposes if camping life isn't for you. These trailers are readily available used for cheap, and weigh less than 1000# empty. Even with 1000# of gear, your truck should be able to handle a 1 ton load with minimal stress.

Welcome from a fellow Ridgerunner. I can remember when running 'shine was a side job. Unfortunately, can't help you w/ your questions outside of google.
