Might be living in my truck cap this winter in PA, looking around and stumbled upon this forum. Took me awhile to find this place.

Decided on truck cap, because I already have a truck that is paid for. I've got a job, and would really not like to spend $650 for an efficiency apartment, in a somewhat shady neighborhood. Rather wait a month or more until I can find something that is a better deal in a neighborhood where I don't feel like I'm going to be shot.

I am working now, but am going through a divorce, so part of my money will be going to my wife.

Andrew, welcome!
Same story here. That's why I got a van [emoji604] and just transformed it into a cosy abode.
I'm in Pa also. Close to the big river.

That sounds like it could be rough. Do you have a place to shower? I wonder if a guy like you might want to get a part time job just to get out of the weather.

You'll want some good long underwear, a stocking cap, a good sleeping bag and a blanket. Good luck and welcome to the board.

Welcome. Looking forward to hearing about your experiences. I pretty new here myself. These fine folks have patiently answered my newbie questions and have been great. I'm sure you'll find the same.

I was going to get the $10 a month gym membership, planet fitness I believe. Yeah, its $10 for only being able to goto 1 location, but they're open 24 hours a day. I was thinking of parking at the apartment complexes near walmart supercenters, or super markets that are open 24 hours, to use the restrooms if need be.

As stated I have a full time job, to most of my bills. I sorta have a girlfriend, and she isn't keen on the idea of me living in my truck. But I told her it won't be forever. She still isn't happy about it, but that is fine. I also said that she would have never known if I didn't say anything, I could have told her I lived in an apartment complex someplace, and not said where, or said I rented a room in a house, and I wasn't allowed to have guests.

I've got a 1997 Chevy 1500 Ext Cab 4x4 Long Bed, with a cap from a 1987 ford, that barely fits. It's 2" wide on each side, it's fine length wise, but the front of my truck bed is bowed forward, like someone had something heavy in the back and stopped really quickly. So I gotta hook up the come along, and attach that to a couple 2x4's at the tailgate area, and pull that back square. Then it should seal better and not have a gap there. For the sides, it has wood that is the bottom on both sides. So I'm going to either find some treated wood, like 6" wide for each side, then screw and construction adhesive that on to the underside. Then clamp it down. Or Get some regular wood and coat the hell outta it with multiple layers of outdoor paint, hopefully that'll last a couple years in the weather.

I have though a little about insulation, bit not a whole lot. But I have a foam mattress, some tea lights and 2 sleeping bags. Yeah, a tea light won't do much, maybe take the chill off an enclosed space, and give me some reading light.

insulate it and grab a buddy heater....there are some decent truck builds ive seen might make your life a little more pleasant. ill post back with links when im not on mobile.
also check craigsliust, i see used truck campers for free or real cheap, since you have a long bed. people just want them hauled off.
