I rarely forward this type of ad to the forum but this seems like it might be suitable for a few of our members.

These small RV lots typically sell for a few thousand dollars at Lake Meredith which is NE of Amarillo in the Texas Panhandle. These might make a good stopover point for travelers who pass thru the Texas Panhandle as they traverse the country. Or maybe a more permanent location for a tiny home on wheels.

My sister and her son have bought some of these properties at firesale prices, so I know it can be done.

For those not on facebook I am attaching a few screen-grabs.

I am not involved in these listings in any way, but I often see local ads for this area on Facebook. He seems to have 4 good seller reviews on Facebook. Other than that I have no knowledge of this seller.

(I suppose we need another prefix selection such as 'Misc for Sale' but 'Gear for Sale' was the best of the options in the prefix menu)

Interesting. But... west Texas??? Is there a more inhospitable hunk of land anywhere? Just kidding...maybe.

I'm hoping to find somewhere a "bit" more hospitable, but in a pinch... maybe. :)

Well yeah, but if you want a nice scenic place to live next to the coast, the rivers, or the mountains, you better open up that wallet very W-I-D-E.

Why do you think its cheap to live out here in the sticks? This is called fly-over country for a reason!

;)

At any rate, it can be a nice place to live: low cost of living, unhurried pace, pleasant, down to earth people, for the most part.

Not for everyone and I am NOT trying to sell anyone on the idea, just putting it out there as an option, especially for seasonal residence.

Do you know if hookups of any type are provided? From what I remember it’s a pretty nice area. And it’s not smelly like Dalhart. ;-)

I have no info other than what is posted in the FB ad.

The ad indicates one of the lots has electric and water hookups but the others are 'raw land'. I believe these lots are intended for seasonal use with things like travel trailers and such.

I did look at the online property records, and I have confirmed that the name in the FB ad IS listed as owning several lots in that area. Regardless, any interested parties should proceed with due diligence and caution.

Some places grow on you after awhile.
Sometimes it can be good for your budget to give 'em a chance to do that ;)
There's at least a little magic almost anywhere.

I've been there a few times & got slowed down in the 2000 Amarillo blizzard. I liked the area. Anyone know if the Big Texan Steakhouse is still there? We stopped on the way down to P/U a plane & on the way back. The waitress said the steakhouse rented the entire motel next door to house their staff.

Thanks! I doubt I'll ever make it back but stopped every time I went by. The 2000 trip I'd bought a Weedhopper in Phoenix. Same model I just bought as it's 2 axis so no legs required to fly just to steer while taxiing on the ground. I've researched it & believe there were more Weedhoppers built than any other plane in history & John Choita was the only aircraft maker to design & mfg his own engines along with planes.

tx2, I was just joking about West Texas. I DO appreciate the information. I've recently been looking at northern AZ or even NM, which is still kind of arid and perhaps a bit more expensive, but not prohibitively so. Oceanfront property was never in my crosshairs, but I wouldn't turn it down. I am still open to ideas.
