Hurricane Irma. The impact it made. The time at which I became one of the neewbies on the block.
42 Year old guy with less then 2 weeks notice that A) The cheap motel where my girlfriend and I were renting a room for almost a year was closing down. B) Said Girlfriend of over 5 years finally said F it to GA and decided to move up to her son's place in MI right before the storm hit. C) That my measly paycheck of about $270 a week wasn't going to cover much solo between my current monthly bills (car payment/ins/cell/storage/credit cards).
So with the stuff moved from our room and into storage with the rest of the stuff from the house we used to live in before, I packed a duffel of clothes, my big cooler, a storage container of fine china and silver AKA paper and plastic, a pillow blanket and sheet, my laptop, and the one thing I wasn't going to put into a non-climate controlled storage unit my $1500 custom build gaming desktop ( sorry got to have my tech with me) into my 2004 Jeep Liberty.
Being from Florida and having been with out power for long periods of time I already had a 1000w invertor in my Jeep for any power issues that may arise. To this I've added a small hitch cargo rack that I made from some scrap that a friend had and a 96AH deep cycle battery and a continuous solenoid so it charges every time I run the Jeep. Planning on adding more later and to a future upgrade project.
I have a couple of nice trail spots I can park at along with a Love's truckstop. Have an old coworker that is a manager there so he also hooks me up with free showers if they are busy plus they have kick ass wifi through the parking lot I can use when I camp there. My boss also knows about my new status and since I work at a 24 Kroger, he is allowing me to park behind or besides the store a couple nights a week. If i have a couple of days off in a row, I will splurge and get a room for a night or two, just for the option of being in a bed and able to stretch out around me.
Future planning in the works is find an old cargo trailer and converting it into a small camper, which lead me ti this site to begin with.
Looking forward to learning more from everyone and taken advantage of this lifestyle while at same time maintaining a job and my sanity, hence my need for my computer. You can take the gamer guy out of those house, but you can't stop him from finding ways to game outside
