As I run toward vehicle living I am leaving behind 20+ years of experience as a veterinary technician and towing with me 6 cats and one deer mouse (don't ask I've had her for almost 5 years) This made me realize that I need to bulk up their first aid kit. While a lot of items for human and animal first aid are very similar there are some things that you just can't give them. I spent this morning filling my kit to the brim . . .

Here's what's in my first aid kit contains:

1 1000ml bag of Lactated Ringers
2 250ml bags of NaCl (saline)
2 500ml bags of NaCl (saline)
1 bottle of eye flush
4 standard IV lines
2 microdrip IV lines
3 22g x 1" IV catheters
3 30 x 1" IV catheters
3 24 x 3/4" IV catheters
Assorted syringes from 1ml - 60ml
Assorted needles from 16g - 25g
1 Nye tourniquet
2 unconstituted bottles of Amoxi drops
1 10ml bottle of Metacam (pet safe pain reliever)
1 small bottle of baby aspirin (pets CAN NOT have Ibuprofen or Tylenol)
2 tubes Neosporin
2 tubes A & D ointment
1 tube of BNP eye ointment (like neosporin for the eyes)
1 tube of NPD eye ointment (same as above with a steroid in it)
1 container silver sulfadiazine cream
1 box of non-sterile heavy duty rubber gloves
1 pr. heavy leather gloves (if the animal is painful you don't want to get bitten)
1 box of alcohol wipes
5 rolls Vetwrap
3" x 3" gauze pads
2" x 2" gauze pads
5 rolls 1" white tape
5 rolls 2" white tape
1 box large Talfa pads (they don't stick to wounds)
1 small box of tongue depressors
1 small box Talfa Pads
1 tube styptic pencils
2 8 french rubber catheters (good for tube feeding or unblocking a cat with urinary issues - I have 4 males cats and one already has a crystal problem I've never had to unblock him but I know it's a possibility)
6 FVRCP vaccines (they are all due in Jan for their annual vaccines)
Bandage scissors
Tweezers
Stethoscope
Rectal thermometer (cats and dogs run at temps of 101 - 102.5)

I have other items but they are aimed at human first aid.
All of this should effectively handle ANY emergency my cats should have (and some people if it came down to it) My kit is stored in a large camera bag

Keep your pets safe. I am always here if anyone needs help or advice, don't hesitate to ask. My animal medical experience is what I have to contribute to the community

Wow! You're a traveling pharmacy! I posted an emergency bug-out bag for pets on my blog, but it's not nearly so extensive!

Thanks for the offer to help and advise!
LOL Im sorry had to laugh even though its a GREAT first aid kit. I have a friend who is a retired nurse and she would also have that for her now deceased dog. I have pet rats now and the only things I have are , infant Motrin , peroxide and the ability to make elizabeth type collars. Im a bad pet owner. I guess if I was living in the van locally I would add other things or maybe not. Maybe if I was traveling yes cause then I wouldn't know where to get some of the items you mentioned.

Absolutely and if any of you find yourself in a bind don't hesitate. If I'm in the area I will help. I can always refill my first aid kit.
