Just one 100 watt panel, it will join its twin brother on the ambo this weekend. The plan is for a total of three panels, one has been great, two should be better!

That should get you going nicely. And you're right, three is even better. ;-)

More batteries please!

I have decided to add two more batteries to my ambo, bringing it to six.

Six batteries ought to run most of what you might want to run. ;-)

Finally got a break in the weather long enough to mount the panel!

Fantastic! Very nice home you have there. Post some more pics of everything once you get the kayak up top and the bike on a rack or whatever!

Sweet build!
Don't know where you're at but if you're on the left coast I can get you the deuce parts you're looking for.

Maybe I missed it but what charge controller did you go with?
Were did you source your panels?
I'm in shopping mode now but no hurry.

Thanks.

I used the icp global sun force 30 amp controller, the panels are renogy 100w panels

I live in TN, sort of the middle, but love a road trip!

wow lowtech way cool rig. start a thread about it so we can ask some questions and not derail this one. highdesertranger

Finished up some wiring today, inverter is online, in search of a new solar controller, apparently what I have is not a MPPT charge controller. The sunforce 30 amp digital controller is a well built controller, however it is fairly inefficient compared to a MPPT controller which will use the wattage of my array more efficiently. It seems like I learn something new everyday about solar panels everyday...

I agree. I've seen those things disintegrate into powder instantly. The cement that they make those from is not solid and has a lot of air pockets that equal structural weakness.

Be careful.

Awhile back a guy near me had a large boat (somewhat like a fishing trawler but smaller) up on cement blocks in his yard. It's gone now, but I always wondered about the safety aspect of doing that! Of course the Rednecks and Bubbas hereabouts have long used the cement blocks as jackstands for their cars and trucks. Have done it myself, but I long since bought the proper adjustable steel jackstands.

I figured since they hold up houses, and I had wood between any metal and concrete it would be ok. It worked out, and since this is a one time deal, I didn't want to buy a bunch of heavy jacking equipment to have sitting around. Here is the end result!

Lots more work to do, but this was a major accomplishment!
