<EM>Hi. Is there anyone else who builds scale models like cars, trucks, planes military stuff here ?</EM><BR><EM>As a kid&nbsp;loved to&nbsp;build AMT plastic model truck kits.</EM><BR><EM>Recently while I was waiting on a jobsite holdup I came across a reissued AMT Kenworth truck kit (at the local hobby shop) in 1/25 scale&nbsp;and started building again.</EM><BR><EM>It&nbsp;helps in keeping&nbsp;me&nbsp;enthusiastic&nbsp;when the real toy is 100's of miles away. I found the older model wasn't quite correct for me but found a company that&nbsp;sold the&nbsp;model, wheels,&nbsp;engines and parts that match.<BR>Below is a&nbsp;model VT903 Cummins engine that was Aussie correct for my truck.&nbsp;&nbsp;</EM><BR><EM>Yeh I know......Finding somewhere to put&nbsp;them afterwards became a challenger but I built a shelf and perspex box cover to house these models so they can't be flung all over the place.</EM><BR><BR><EM>If anyone here builds models (not just trucks etc) lets see them.</EM><BR><BR><EM>Geoff</EM>

I haven't built any for many years but did as a kid. What I find is pretty cool are the "junkers" on eBay (and elsewhere,I guess). These are cars or truck models that have been dented, scraped, aged and painted with simulated rust paint, fake bullet holes,etc. to look like abandoned vehicles or junkyard residents. I built ALOT of models in my youth, and still have a ton of 'em on the shelves of my custom graphics &amp; fab shop's showroom. Mostly semi trucks and choppers, but&nbsp;I also love panel trucks and woodies too!<BR><BR>...but that's what has happened with me.....now I build the 'real' stuff!! Choppers and hot-rods.<BR><BR>I'm also gearing up to restore a vintage Aladdin canned-ham camper for my wife, and build my 7th stepan conversion for traveling and to run my new business out of.<BR><BR>Someday, I'll dig out my cases of model kits that I still have and spend some quiet time reliving my youth. <IMG class="emoticon bbc_img" src="/images/boards/smilies/cool.gif">

i used to build rc model airplanes. balsa was my favorite. usualy 20' to 40's era stuff.
i would pull lots of data from 3 views. never to one to fly for very long, but i enjoyed the building as much as the flying.
flew lots of foam, tho.
micro p51 was fast and fun, the old version.

I've been building models most of my life. Mostly cars & trucks.Took a break (for about 30 yrs) but, as I get older, I look around more and more for ways to stay out of trouble. Lately, I've been involved scratch building as many crewcab versions of standard pick ups as I can with the end game, hopefully, being able to produce resin bodies that I'll be able to sell on eBay, and at any model shows I'll be able to attend.
What I'm discovering about continuing the hobby in my rv, is that its something I can work on just about anywhere, anytime, and since its just me, I don't have to worry too much about having my mess spread from one end of the camper to the other.

I too am an old model builder. Slacked off quite a bit the last many years, but occasionally build one or two. I do aircraft (WWII and early jet aircraft especially), naval ships, armour and some cars. I get especially detailed with the armour - weathering, added detailing, dirtying it up, drilling out gun barrels, etc. Have entered a few contests years ago, and got a second place with an M-24 Chaffee tank kit in one. But the store that held that contest and held weekly meetings folded. The owner was a fellow military vet, so we got along well.
The only other shop anything like it is clear on the other side of the county. Prices of kits has skyrocketed! I have ordered a few classic unbuilt kits via Ebay.
Now that I am retired, I have thought of getting back to it. But I do have an S&B house. For folks fulltiming in a van/RV, storage of completed models would be a problem. Trickier than storing books!
I always found it stress-relieving and therapeudic, but nowadays my handloading and target shooting provides the same benefits.
