Hi There,

I need a little battery advice.  I have a mini-scooter I bought a few years ago that has a lead battery.  I bought a 2nd battery for back up too back then.   I only rode the mini-scooter once.  I knew nothing about batteries (I am barely learning about batteries now.)   Recently, I turned on the scooter to check the battery level (s) and they were pretty much full.  Since I don't ride the scooter, what is the best advice to store the batteries and still keep them usable and do I need to store them some place other than in their canvas carrying case?    Do I only allow them to be used half-way before needing to charge them?  If I have to ride the scooter, then I will.  I just don't want them to die before I end up driving my scooter.  I plan on taking it with me (it's collapsible) and using it for short distances.  Thanks!

The closer to topped off the better. If they sit they will degrade eventually below 50% which is when the serious damage occurs. Trickle charges you can set and forget, a small solar panel will do the same. 10-15 watts without a charge controller? I couldn't say how often to top off, but 1 week - month should be okay.

Thank you! :)

I run a 15watt for a maintainer and I still run it though a controller. highdesertranger

I'm not knowledgable about what you mean.  I have a charger that plugs into the scooter and then the wall.  I will charge it today.   :)

I was talking about a 15 watt solar panel and a controller. highdesertranger
