Yeah, what a bummer. I was planning to sign up this month! Not now. I think I'll just rely on free Wifi when and where I can get it.

Figures, since I just dropped Verizon and went with them last month. It's still the best deal around if you are a heavy user.

Get an amateur radio license. Get into computer packet radio. You can send email over the radio. It's very difficult but is possible.

Has anyone tried Straight Talk Mobile Web? I am very happy with their phone service and have been thinking of trying it out.

If you are looking to tether, I don't believe straight talk is an option.

straight talk will depend on the phone you buy and the region your in but most are on verizon.

straight talks mobile broadband is verizon but very costly for what you get.

I carry a Tracfone for 7 bucks a month and have milinicom with a magic jack plugged in.....even with the added 20 bucks coming up its still worth it......TV/phone/internet for under 100 bucks with no contracts.....its a wonderful thing!!!

It's a wonderful thing if you have the extra 20 bucks a month! :-/

70 or 90.....is alot of money.......I wish they made an affordable big screen smartphone that would work on a walmart plan but they dont , so 100 it is!....LOL

Mike, you know it isn't easy for most folks around here to laugh off 20 bucks.
It makes me re-think whether I can afford to sign up as I'd planned for next month.

I guess I shouldn't complain about my $101 monthly cell phone bill from Verizon which I've had for 6+ years that includes grandfathered unlimited 4G LTE data.

Caseyc am sure they throttle you after 2G

Wrong. I don't get throttled like what other cellular companies do. I would not have stayed with Verizon for all these years if I had been throttled.

Have you used more than 5GB of data each month? I've heard reports from many sites, almost daily, that Verizon throttles unlimited data Grandfathered customers because they've done away with all unlimited data. As of right now, T-Mobile and Sprint are the sole providers of unlimited data (or any company bouncing off their towers), but Sprint openly states they throttle you over 5GB in their fine print.

If you are not throttled, then I be damn jelly.

You are getting first hand information from a Verizon customer with grandfathered unlimited data plan. I am not telling you hear-say information. I routinely go through 10 to 25 GB of data each month, mostly through my smartphone, along with some wireless tethering through the Foxfi app. Don't ya peeps think I would know if I'm throttled down? :)

...and yes, you may now proceed to be damn jelly, haha! :)

Here in Northern CA, Straight talk used to be Verizon, then migrated to AT&T, but is now T-Mobile. The service is horrible compared to the previous 2 carriers. I bit the bullet and went with Verizon for the coverage.

I would go with a contract plan but, being on a fixed income if something was to come up and put me in a position that I couldnt pay it then I would be in worse shape......guess it all depends on where you are.

the eastern half of the country has intense coverage by all the carriers.....so the rates on no contract systems are very competitive..Im sure within the next couple years its going to get worse cost wise as things move into the ""Streaming mode"" for homes and the demand increases on wireless services...we are seeing it now

Heck, at least we're beyond the stone age of using AOL and landline dial-up service at 56k baud speed. Ye gads!! I don't remember the cost of that service back then, but I don't recall it being cheap.
