I am trying to create as much solar real estate as possible on my Sprinter. Looking for advice regarding a forward mounted vent fan. I want to install a Maxxair. The flat spot in the center between the second and third cross braces from the front is a no brainer but has anyone put it farther forward in the space between the first and second cross braces? Would that spot have a lot of wind turbulence off the nose and windshield?

I installed my MaxxFan in a vertical wall near the top of the ceiling in the rear of my cargo trailer. Works fine. MaxxAir said that installing it vertically wouldn't hurt, but that it may have problems with some rain getting in. I've had no problems with rain sneaking in. That doesn't answer your question, but perhaps that gives you another option as I, too, wanted as much solar real estate as possible. Not having a vent casting shadows is a plus as well; shadows are an anathema to power production.

another option is just put it under the solar panel, and remove the maxxair cover. I did it that way because it was too much hassle to remove it. The panel will keep the rain from getting in, fan works as good as it did before. In 5 years it been that way never had any rain come inside my van.
In winter just cover the vent with foam insulation to keep the cold out.

I had to use longer L brackets to install the panel but it was not a problem.
