In searching those ads, many are fakes.  An Airstream for how much?  Exact wording, different prices in different cities.

Why would they be fake? It's normal everyday prices.

No they are not.  I Googled the photo, and found it in several places.  A $40,000 new Airstream Bambi does not  sell for $5,500, $3,484, $3,483, and so on depending what city it is listed in. Not in the condition shown.  Same photo, same reflection, same exact wording.  If it seems too good to be real, it usually is.

Short wording, lack of pictures ~~~ If you contact them they ask for a wire transfer to "hold or ship" SCAM!

Do everyone a favor, and flag a scam when you find one.

Ok CL has fake ads too. Sorry. You think you found one so far, that's far from "many" you stated

NADA - basic 2002 bambi average retail $4,600

Sorry to say but Craigslist has many fake adds. LE doesn't do anything about the fraud as most adds originate in a different country.
If they can't show you the vehicle and title, it is probably a scam. All kinds of stories, I'm in the military got transferred overseas vehicle is in a shipping container on a base in Texas. I can have the DOD ship it anywhere for free yadda yadda .

I give up.

Some people refuse to have an open mind.

Good luck suckers.

Stop being so negative.  These are ideal people to sell bridges and future beachfront property in NV to.  Hey, have I got a deal for you!

Had forgotten that Craig's list has a lot of fraud postings. Be careful shopping folks.

Why all those CL ads are so outside real market value of $15k+ they have to be FAKE

I don't think anyone was saying Craigslist is all fake, just to beware that it does contain fakes. I do a TON of buying and selling on Craigslist. I get at least a few scam offers every week. Just the nature of doing business on there. They are easy to spot though as they always identify themselves by asking to ship the item or send money. I can weed out 95% of them by doing a google image search to see if the image comes up anywhere else if I'm suspicious before I even reply to an ad.

Yup, same here, if I can't put eyes / hands on the item, no sale

Not saying the are all fake at all. Some might be, as reported by others. Please don't exaggerate else you get reported to the tin foil hat cops as trying to generate conspiracy theory.

Thanks for focus on the topic. Have not seen enough discussion about what is needed for budget purchase price of a reasonable quality used RV.

Still stick by the topic title. That you can get something for less than $15000 and expect it to be a good solution.

Started out in 2000 with $11,500 1983 Barth 28' motor home that had been redone by Amish farmer trying to keep migrant worker crew busy during the winters. It was as new and did great traveling, not so good parked but to this day serves as "home base" for us. Bought a 1991 Ajo 18' bumper pull camper trailer in 2010 for $3000 and made $600 worth of repairs, coated roof even though it had no leaks, fixed unnoticed damage in wheel well from blown tire, and painted. Pulled with Rental truck to host campgrounds seasonally. Sold three years latter for $2800. Spent $2000 on tent and glamping supplies in 2013, and bought new tacoma 4x4 with topper ($25,000) to travel. Ended up with so much gear bought open utility trailer to haul it in at the end of 2013 for $800. After reading tntt trailer site built box to enclose utility trailer and sleep in and went to rtr. This year built 4' on to the box to hopefully provide for composting toleit and shower without having to set up tents or exit warm trailer and should have less than $7000 in homemade self contained camper when done. That's what I spent and as you can see the cheapest wasn't the best for me but all worked for my wife and I to live where we wanted the way we wanted and none were over $15000.

Funny thing, I know this one is real, I looked at it in December!! They had good prices on used and pretty good prices on new.  But the sales guy trying to help me was a idiot! I was looking up answers to my questions on my phone before he could go back to office and print out a sheet that didn't answer my questions!!  Can I just say there are some idiots trying to sell rvs out there!!

If you are in the Denton area check out Crandall motorsports. The owner is great and was very helpful answering questions and offering advice as I am still weighing class c or tt options. Good prices on used divers, tt and rvs.

For budget, TTs are great. You can get a nice, fairly large trailer for reasonably priced. If you dont mind looks, older Class As are very cheap and lots to pick from. Even good selection if 5ers, Cs and Bs. Good topic. I know my first full time rig wont be top of the line. As long as we are comfortable.

If you can do repairs and modifications yourself (and have access to decently priced parts) you have much more choice in type and way cheaper price of rig.

Sweet spot is maybe 7000 -10000$.

Looked at a HI LO trailer this weekend. Built like a tank. The company is out of business in 2010 but this unit just drips quality construction (meaning great quality). The wanted $13000 for it. Too much length for me at almost 30 feet. Not enough closet and storage, but that could be adapted as the overall open airiness was terrific. Dry weight is 5000 pounds. GVW is 6900 pounds.

Would call this a Fiberglass and aluminum paint version of an airstream at half the cost.

The thing that bothers me is I still seem to be not getting enough for the money. I saw a 22' class A Winni 1994 with 60,000 miles for less than $7,000. Even with $3,000 worth of repairs it would be under $15,000 sweet spot and I still wouldn't want the worries of freezing water lines or dry rotted rubber parts if you could build out a cargo trailer and van with new components for less.
