I thought I would share a possible money maker for you. About a year ago I had a transport business. I hauled up and down the west coast. I did it with a pickup and 20ft enclosed trailer. I found this website; Uship.com. It is a website that people post things they need shipped all over the US, canada, and I believe other countries. What I will be doing is when I decide to go somewhere I look up that area on Uship and find something to haul, and that will pay my fuel where I am going and maybe make a profit. The way it works is you look for shipments to the area you are going to and you bid on the shipment. If you win the bid then you haul that item for them for the amount agreed on. Everything you can amagine is shipped on there. Cars, boats, motorcycles, furniture, equiptment, pets, animals, even people looking for a ride, ect. There are some legalities to consider. You are responsible for the property you haul. If your gross weight is under 10,000 LBS you dont need to register with DOT. Anyway just an idea if your interested.

I checked out the uship wed site, its a good idea for some people. It looks like some of the cost of traveling could be covered if the overhead cost are not to high. And one would have to meet all the requirements to be legal. Most vehicles pulling a trailer would be 10000lbs or more so this would also require a class A commercial drivers license.

One thing to consider is insurance. Your normal coverage is unlikely to cover contents transported for commercial purposes. We used a clearinghouse service like this to disperse some large antiques following the death of my wife's grandmother.

A number of the items were destroyed by improper packing/care of the shipper. We were reimbursed but it wasn't easy.

I did for about 9 months. I had all the licensing and ins required. A CDL is required if your gross weight is over 26,000 LBS.
