If you purchase a season pass for the LTVA do you have to move to other LTVA areas every two weeks or can you stay in one place if you like it?  I'm kind of confused about that.

you can stay in one place for as long as the pass lasts. the winter LTVA pass is good at any of the winter LTVA's. highdesertranger

I’ve stayed at two LTVAs so far this winter, and plan to visit two more this season. I really like the LTVA system, I don’t have to move and dump stations and water and dumpsters are available. I have not heard any complaints of theft or any other problems in the LTVAs in Quartzsite.

The only proviso on that is that not all LTVAs are created equal and so some of us who do  not have commercially manufactured RVs are restricted as to which LTVAs we can use.

My van does not have the required 10 gallon black water holding tank and so is restricted from some LTVAs and required to be parked within 500' of a bathroom facility in others. I chose instead to install a C-Head marine toilet. These toilets were not taken into consideration when the regulations were put in place.

Holtville is an example of this. The only washroom facilities are in the day use area. As such, my van does not qualify to stay on LTVA grounds. Fortunately for me, there is free dispersed camping right behind the south LTVA area that I can use.

Also, some LTVAs have more facilities than others. Some have dump stations, some don't. Same goes for water. Check the on line listings so that you know in advance what each LTVA has available.

Do they check to see if you are using your tanks?  I have tanks but I don't use them.  I might use the gray tanks if I was out there but probably still use my porta potty.

Mod Note: Removed quotation for those on cell phones

I don't think the rules include anything about a ranger watching over you to see how you take care of 'bidness'.

Now if you have a little privy tent outside your van or RV with a smelly bucket, I'm guessing they can figure out what it might be for.

Camping within 500 feet of a pit toilet worked out well for us.

When you arrive at a LTVA office you are given a brochure with information on all the LTVAs and available services. As with anything else, read and decide if it works for your situation.

Since the LTVAs require a person to have some money they seem to be populated with a diverse but honest group of folks. I left my TT for three days and traveled to see my mother, another RV near us had been unoccupied for weeks. A number of people leave their belongings unattended. As I mentioned before, no theft complaints. No meth addicts. No bullshit.

Since they all have camp hosts on site, a commercially manufactured RV isn't even going to be questioned.

Those of us with DIY campers or really old campers where the systems are suspect for leaking etc., are more likely to be questioned as to our facilities.

Because I converted a cargo van to include a C-Head I asked a ranger about the rule. He said that personally, he'd overlook the lack of a black tank once he found out that I had the C-Head but he couldn't speak for any other ranger or host.
