Loves is refusing showers.

This all reminds me of when a certain big-name national chain restaurant would charge some people up-front for meals but not others... based on differing physical appearances. Perhaps a few van dwellers with CDL's should show up, fuel up, and then ask for showers and get refused on video... Perhaps some crafty lawyer would like to take this on for fun and profit. I'll take a meager 10% cut of the take for the inspiration...

I would hope that businesses have the right to refuse service to anyone for no reason given. If not, where are we headed?

It might be the policy at some Love's but I just asked at the Love's in Clovis NM and the lady at the counter said they will sell a shower to anyone. She had not heard of the company declining RVers and travelers.

Good news there!

Flying J Hq is in Ogden, Utah. I would expect no less from them, good to know that Loves no longer wants my business.

All this speculation on one report and no one else following up on it.  I am inclined to believe it was a one off but who am I?

"I would hope that businesses have the right to refuse service to anyone for no reason given. If not, where are we headed?"

Yeah... quite few people (especially down south) did things exactly that way until about July 2, 1964, but then they had to start treating people equally.  To pick and choose depending on one's status in life, or physical appearance, or some other subjective factor... simply offends my fundamental concept of fairness.  I agree businesses can and should refuse service for cause, perhaps if someone is disruptive or creating a disturbance, but certainly not because they live in a van or don't drive a semi-truck or have a CDL.  My cash is just as green as anyone else's cash.  Step up, pay your money, take a shower...

I buy 90 gallons of diesel for my MoHo and use the dump station. Never use a shower.
I get it though. The checkout lines are usually long and a lot of drivers are always waiting.
Flying J is my preference.

I sure don't want to patronize a business that really doesn't want to serve me.  There could be subtrefudge involved.  Below par service and all.

Off track.

Truckers get their own checkout line at the chain truck stops. I've never seen a long line.
There is a truckers lounge where they can surf the internet, checking trucker forums, watching the TV on the wall, while they wait for their shower turn to come up.
They can only drive a number of hours in a day. They can either sit in the lounge or sit inside their truck, stopped on a lonely pullout somewhere to satisfy the non driving time.

Just because someone on the Internet says they had a bad experience, does not make it valid for all.

I'm gonna refuse showers too from now on.

I'm just gonna stink.

So there.

:)

I can't refuse showers....I need them for my rain barrels!

most of the loves i ran across seamed to have smaller facilities so i could see them getting overwhelmed.

i dont blam them, they dont call them truck stops for nothing. of course we can also choose to support other companies that are not so exclusive. the power of the free market and voting with your wallet...

I DO blame them. That argument that they're called a "truck stop" no longer flies. The mere fact that they have gas pumps that no 18 wheeler can pump gas at, and they have drive up windows for fast food businesses connected to their buildings that no 18 wheeler can pull up to, is all I need to know that they are actively marketing to 4 wheelers as well. So it appears they want our money but do not want to provide us the same services they offer to truckers...even though we are also paying for showers.
Loves was my favorite place to go, but now they will no longer get my money.

I agree. I live near a Love's truck stop and used to buy gas there all the time but since I first saw this thread I've been buying from the Pilot truck stop instead. Showers should be for whoever can pay for them.

Still just one report of being refused. Anyone else heard of this elsewhere or been denied?

I have to agree with Brian.

who has actually been denied a shower at Love's?

I see to much speculation on this subject.

Loves test is concluded and the results are . . . . .

Loves in Post Falls, Idaho will let anyone buy a shower regardless of truck driver status.

Vandwellers Welcome !!!

Thanks to Brian and highdesertranger for questioning this report.

And... I will start buying gas at Loves again.

By the way, Post Falls is a great place for vandwellers. You can sleep at Loves or Pilot, then drive to Walmart at Stateline and sleep there, and drive a few blocks to Cabelas and sleep there, then go sleep at the highway rest area between Post Falls and Coeur d'Alene.

I had a shower this morning at a Loves between Tucson and Phoenix prior to a medical procedure. No problems, no funny looks, no comments except a friendly attitude.
