Hi. I’m a newcomer and i’m specifically looking to connect with other people who are/have van/car dwelled in CT. I’d like to hear about your experiences, how you dealt with issues like heat/ac, winter, police, etc. I want to try this lifestyle, but I still have a lot of questions

Hi Shikinah, welcome to CRVL!

I don't fit your criteria, as I am stuck in sticks & bricks for a while longer, and I am not in CT -- I'm on the north fork of Long Island. But I wanted to say 'hi' anyway because there are very few of us CRVLers in the North East. A couple of us have gotten together to practice car-dwelling and it's been a lot of fun & very educational. We'll probably do something in the spring, maybe you'll be able to join us.

In any event, I'm sure more experienced folks will chime in soon!

Welcome!

Thanks for responding! Can you tell me about your practice sessions? I wanted to try that this summer, but i couldn’t even figure out how to get a bed in my CRV. Where did you practice? What did you learn?

My hunch is that in a CRV you'd lay down half the backseat & sleep with your head near the front seat & your feet in the hatch, and the use the other side for stuff.  I have a Pilot and that's what is working for me.  I use the other half of the back seat as a lounge area when I have to be in the vehicle for periods of time, or while I'm getting ready for bed.  There's a Youtube channel called 'SUV RVing', I think he's in a RAV4, which is similar in size to a CRV, and he's got a lot of useful videos.

The first get-together was five complete strangers at a large site in a PA state forest -- a free site, if you stopped by the ranger's office and requested a permit. I learned that a bucket in my vehicle was not a satisfactory bathroom experience and I needed some kind of small tent for said bucket.  I learned that my french press was annoying, that my pot was poorly sized for my stove, and that cellophane is apparently a paper product. Also it was nice to know that if you got into some kind of bind, there were other people who could help.

Hope this was useful -- i had to take a kid to an appt in the middle so I apologize if it's disjointed . . .

I agree! Just keep searching YouTube and you'll find others with vehicles similar to yours. That's how I came up with my set up when I discovered my back seats wouldn't lay flat.
