I'm looking to get another van here very soon (my adult son wrapped my Subi around a phone pole). It will be my daily driver for a bit until I can buy a clunker with better gas milage.

I am looking at buying new and have pretty much decided on a 4x4. Question is do I go with a Chevy Express extended with a Quigley's or a 144" 4x4 Sprinter?

The Sprinter should get better gas milage and already has a high roof. Chevy is easier to find a mechanic to work on it and more robust. After adding a hightop the price would be within $800 of each other.

Any advice or input is appreciated!

Chevy, with a gas engine. The Sprinter is only diesel, and almost all newer diesels are having problems with the emission equipment.

What Sprinter-like vans are petrol, ideally at least that high and available extended wheelbase?

Can diesel be modified to run on LP as easily as petrol engines?

Model suggestions please.

I'm not familiar with a stock Chevy with that much room, ability to stand throughtout.

Coastie said Chevy Express with Quigley 4x4 and a high top.
vs Sprinter 144" 4x4.... I picked Chevy of the two.
Bob covered why IMO.

No problemo John.
Coastie is buying new so model suggestions would be good info , but he seems to already have done that part.

I'd guess model is a moot point unless it's a new purchase.
Buying used is a whatever is available and how long you can wait.

If you're looking too , you could always start a thread and get suggestions. IIRC this subject has been discussed before so there might be something useful in the archives.

Plus , as new models come out things change.
or as older models start having problems advice would/might take that new info into account too.

I would advise a shuttle craft from the Enterprise or the Milennium Falcon. Depending on what size you prefer and where you want to go with it.

No longer looking!!! Picked up the Chevy today!!! Now, time to start buying stuff for the conversion.

Congratulations!

It's a relief, isn't it, to have that decision behind you?  It sure was for me!  So much research and weighing the options makes one's head spin.
Now on the the next 10,000 decisions - insulation, amenities, etc.  That ought to keep you busy for awhile ;)
Have fun!

Cool
Step 1 , check.
Step 2 better be a pic !
Guess you'll need a new thread too.The build is ON !
