Hi all, my name is Grant Guthrie and I travel with my wife Claire in our Honda element, often. We just did a tour from California though Arizona and up into Utah living out of our Honda Element for a month while this Corona Virus stuff continues. It was an amazing journey and the Element is a fantastic companion. Looking forward to seeing all your adventures too!

Welcome Grant to the CRVL forums! To help you learn the ins and outs of these forums, this "Tips, Tricks and Rules" post lists some helpful information to get you started.

Most of our rules boil down to two simple over-riding principles: 1) What you post should provide good information (like your introductory post), and 2) Any response to someone else's post should make them feel glad they are part of this forum community.

We look forward to hearing more from you.

Hi Grant, welcome. I am also a Honda Element owner but I do have a little red caboose travel trailer to tow behind it. But I have done plenty of car camping trips over the last 50 years in various vehicles. The trailer is a new addition for me.

Thanks Maki2 - I was wondering if we should get a roof rack and put on a top cage. The other option was a trailer. I'm torn between the two!

Welcome to the CRVL Forums   :)

I've always liked those Honda Elements myself and if I didn't have the Van rig I have I might consider one and set it up like this one.

I could eat and sleep in it but everything else I'd have to do in public facilities.  But now with Corona, that
may be some time off.  But this was before corona when I was considering this as a travel vehicle.

Unfortunately I can't answer that question as to what will work best for your needs. I travel solo, I make things to sell as I travel. I have need for desk/workbench space and tools.  I only need a bed for one person. We both have Elements but our life on the road is quite different.

I have an OEM roof rack and I will have a solar panel mounted to it. I am not in need of a cargo basket even when camping just in the Element without the trailer tagging along behind it. Element only trips would be leaving the trailer behind at a storage yard for a week or so.
