I am looking into the option of having either LiFePo4 batteries or AGM batteries for powering heater/AC in my van. I haven't decided whether I will use a solar panel or car motor to charge the batteries. I would like to know from you whether it is already inexpensive enough to have LifePo4 batteries. Or, is it AGM batteries still a lot cheaper to buy. If anyone who could direct me to a good place to buy those batteries and the brand, I will really appreciate it.

The price for usable Ah's is getting closer than they used to be for AGM's and LifePo4's. AGM's are still cheaper but a lot heavier.
When you say heat/AC off batteries, exactly what are you trying to power? The fan for a furnace or a resistive electric heater?
AC, how big?
Very few people have a battery bank or solar panel system large enough to run anything but the smallest A/C units.
Heat? You're far better off with propane as your heat source.

do you realize how far you must drive to recharge your battery from your alternator? idling won't cut it. also heating anything with electricity is very inefficient. if you can give us some more details of your plan we can help you out. highdesertranger
Thank you guys so much. I mostly won't need to charge it by alternator, only when I travel on highway for hours. I usually spend two days away from home each time.highdesertranger said:
