Hi Everyone.

Les here from Dallas. Getting divorced, wife gets house. Didn't want to immediately rent or buy somewhere as I am pretty sick of the weather & lack of wilderness near or in Dallas. So bought a 2017 Ram Promaster and am in the middle of converting it into my little 12x6x6 home!

Going to take a year to hit the backroads of N. America and visit little towns where I might find a new life. Definitely want either mountains or ocean or lakes and rivers - prefer all of course.

Excited at the adventure but worried about finances, health, solitude etc. But I feel all will resolve itself like most things do in life.

WIll start posting pics of conversion soon.

Thanks

Im in Austin now but from the west, you can make good money in Tx but the outdoor activity's suck, no wilderness and what it does have is over regulated.

If you're used to wilderness its smothering and soul crushing

Welcome to the CRVL forums Les. Love the Promasters. Good luck on the build.

Hi Les.

I feel the same about Dallas. Putting in my time and I'll be on the road in my own PM.

My ex got the house and I got my freedom; an excellent traded all in all. :)

Welcome Les, you are correct not much wilderness in your area. Its either east west or douth, I am in Decatur just off the LBJ Grasslands, not bad out here but is still building up, trying to complete a skoolie build for full time travel myself, Good Luck! B

It's so nice to be able to switch the million dollar views every few days, and exploring the wilderness of each.

Hi Les Hall? I'm Mario. Fear is normal and currently planning my own get away for at least 3 months and see where it goes after that. I've got "things" holding me but I've just got notice that my health PlanD prescription meds that I need to take for life can be given to me for the 3 months in advance and that's now given me a big relief, taken some of the fear out. I think your going to love it and will clear your mind.

:) Hello Les and Welcome

I'm a native of Dallas.   Lived most of my life there or within 30 to 100 miles south.  I grew up in a little community called Vickery Park it's main crossroads were N Greenville Ave. and Park Lane.  I pastured my first pony where North Park Mall was built.  To say Dallas has really changed thru the years would be a gross understatement.

The thing I like about TX is it has such a wide variety of terrain,  From the Panhandle to the coast to the Big Bend to the East TX piney woods.  I can't wait to get back.

Like you I took very little in my divorce.  I left the house/boat/jeep/pickup/ also the guns/ammo/reloading equipment, my spouse shot in skeet/trap touraments, all the fishing stuff {we fished in Bass tournaments}. Everything was paid for.

So I started a new life with $5,000 a 2yr old cargo van, my clothes and furniture.  I had my freedom and lost my Boss and never looked back.

I'm hoping to be able to travel later this year.

There are a lot of good people here and I've learned about a lot of things I never even knew existed before.
You're facing some major life changes...........It's O.K. to be nervous.
