I'm worried about my dog getting cold. She has short hair (cute floppy bassett hound).

At night time we will all be in there, so I'm not worried about that, but we are going on tour, so while we are in venues playing music I'm going to be worried about her. How can I keep her warm? I don't want to use any dangerous heaters that could catch fire. I've thought about getting a battery powered heating pad possibly, but I don't know if that will suffice. Have any ideas??
I've gone snow camping with my beagle (short hair coat) and she's done just fine. I put a sweater on her when we're in the tent and a snow coat when we're outside. At night she wraps herself in a fleece blanket and snuggles down to sleep. She hasn't frozen yet.

I've insulated my dogs' kennel, to keep them warm. Stuffed their beds with cedar, which holds the heat (and repels fleas.) Put blankets over and under the kennel, lots of them. The kennel stays warm via their body heat, because it's a small space. if your dog will abide a sweater, get a him/her a fleece.

I like the burrow beds, but they don't seem to come in very many sizes

There are a few different brands out there
http://www.funstufffordogs.com/Qstore/Qstore.cgi?CMD=011&PROD=1078808289

http://www.gwlittle.com/product/dog...?pmc=GMC&gclid=CKb-64_b6awCFYSBpAodlQ1BKQ

http://www.bwdogcoats.com/dog-pita-bed-sleeping-bag.html
I forgot to mention that I've got a coleman dog sleeping bag for her that's been lined with a fleece blanket.

Good ideas. I think I could make the burrow bead myself with some old down pillow filling and a some fleece fabric. Not sure if I will have room for a kennel though, but it sounds like it might be a good idea to make room for it! Battery powered heating pads + a costco sized pack of batteries. I also just bought some batter powered LED lights for night time - so cool! (sorry off topic)

And if you still feel like your pooch isn't warm enough ... you can toss a http://www.warmers.com/ into the blanket with them. A friend of mine, who is uber anal about his dog's comfort, did this.

i use those warmers on real cold nights for my feet. they work great.
Roniit, I am sure you have heard of the band "Three Dog Night"

The Three Dog Night Story, 1965-1975 states that vocalist Danny Hutton's then-girlfriend June Fairchild suggested the name after reading a magazine article about Aboriginal Australian's, in which it was explained that on cold nights they would customarily sleep in a hole in the ground whilst embracing a Dingo, a native species of wild dog. I would get the pull over. The ones with velcro closures come loose easily after a while.

I shudder to think what this topic might've been about had you had to explain the origin of the band name Steely Dan.

@ sll1966 OK I had to look up the origin of Steely Dan (the band, not the object) I am still laughing...

My dog does get cold (he's an 80lb. rott mix and a big baby), so since they don't make big dog clothes I go to a Goodwill, buy a cool sweater, fleece vest, or tshirt in the boys section, make a few modifications and I only spent $3.99!! He also loves fleece blankets and I did spoil him and now he has his own sleeping bag
My dog is also 80 lbs and I worry about him getting cold at night. He is tolerant of being covered with a blanket, but he sleeps restless so it is almost never on him in the morning. I bought a coat but he hates it and I think it is too small. I like the sweater idea from a thrift store, but I can't imagine how to put it on him. Is it a pullover? How do you get it over his head and front legs? He's tall and long so would I buy a mans extra large? Did you cut the arms down to make it easier to put it on?
I always get something that can be pulled over and then I put his legs in. I have to cut out a 'v' shape in the neck so it fits him, sometimes I cut the sleeves off if they're too long. Getting the right size is definitely by trial and error. I've been putting clothes on him since he was a puppy, yeah I'm one of those people, so he doesn't mind me playing dress up. Have fun and good luck!!

I don't (personally)if I would put a sweater on a dog all night. I'd be afraid of him/her getting their nails caught in it. It happened to my dog a couple of times and then I bought her sweatshirts. That was a lot better. Nothing to get caught on.
