I woulda just went to the junk yard and built one of these, and thrown a 11ft cab over on it. Yeah Id paint it too.. Then taken the rest of the money and lived... for like 20 years like a king.

Never imagined it would happen, but I actually saw one while out hiking in Australia a few years back.  Even though I saw it swim with my own eyes, it still seems like it can't be real.

Curvy, shiny cabinets. Made possible merely by plywood bending forms, a vacuum press bag, and fancy boat varnish. 1/32"-thick exotic veneer extra. All told, one would need to invest $2k in equipment. Assuming one has the smarts and patience to create the design to begin with. So no, for me, nothing is so shiny and round to warrant extra decimal places in a price.

Actually don't need all that..."bendy" plywood has been around for a bit now and has all the grain oriented in same direction, either long or width ways. It allows you to create nice radius bends on cabinetry without need for vacuum. And the finish is likely buffed polyester resin...never played with it yet, but basically it's more elbow grease than extra $$.

The questions I have are:
1) how much space can be allowed between the "studs" on a radius, and does it depend on how tight the curve..,

2) Is veneer applied before or after shaping plywood, or doesn't it matter..,

3) Is applying a veneer to the inside as well necessary all the time, or depends on the choice of veneer + backing?

Usually people who do these things have an excess of money and are probably bored. So taking the money and running doesn't apply to them........because even after the project is done, they still have the endless supply of money they began with.

I'm guessing the finish on the cabinets is a sprayed on lacquer based finish. Easy to apply and the more coats you put on, the shinier it will get. Lots of ways to bend wood, one of the easiest (easiest is a relative term, it all takes a fair amount of wood working knowledge and skill..........and patience) is to buy "wacky wood" It's a bendable plywood and then after you get it the shape you want you apply a veneer in the wood of your choice over it.
