Hi all,

I feel I've been asleep for about the past 10 or more years, thinking of all the things I plan to do in the future, and I just woke up with a start.  I'm realizing that the clock is really starting to run fast and I find I have itchy feet. I'm supposed to check out my first van later this week.  I think I'm just going to van dwell on the weekends this upcoming summer to see how I like it, but after that, who knows.

Good to see there's a vibrant community here.

Thank you.

:) Hello and Welcome  :)

Welcome to the CRVL Forums   :)

That sounds like a wise and well reasoned plan.   i think you'll like it and begin to look forward to your weekends.
I used to with my first Van back in school days.  Back then I was so busy gearing up for the future I hardly lived in the present.  But on those week ends in my Van when camping I began to realize how much I'd been living in the world of tomorrow and missing much of what was actually happening in my life then.  I suddenly realized how much of a make believe and pretend world it was that I had been encouraged to embrace by well meaning parents.  Certainly when you are a young person in school you are preparing for the future,  but there is a time
one has to learn to call off that way of thinking for his own good.

If you are looking for a way to fix up a basic rig out of your Van, consider the links below.   One will make the conversion and one will help you to plan trips or better navigate once you are on the road.

Thank you for helping me.  I appreciate the links.  I was hoping to find a class B until I found out how expensive they really are, and I've decided I want something stealthy.  Instead, I'm looking to customize a full size van.  Being 6' 4", I believe I won't have enough room to put the bed across the back, but I'm ok with that.  I've watched a few of the van builds on youtube and I'm pretty sure I can accomplish a build of my own.  Have you been van dwelling for some time?

Thank you.

Regards,

60 for me to this year, OH MAN I wanna go back to 50. Someone said to me "you just wait until your 50 and then it seems like the world speeds up" Well the last 10 years have flown by.

I too am 6'4", so my bed runs lengthwise on the driver's side. Not a problem. Sometimes, I just have to be able to stretch out.

Ah, a young fella. 60 here, myself. Fifty seems like about a minute ago.

Given my family's typical longevity, it's strange to think I might have 10 years or less left.

Welcome aboard !
You found the right place !

Welcome you old fart.

I have been 21 years old for the last THIRTY SIX years.    Never stop having fun.  (I will always be the problem child.)

My body sure has changed, dings and dents.  A few scratches.  Some parts replaced, top speed is slower...    But at least the world takes the gray hair more seriously.   :D

Spend some time going over the older postings.  Especially the builds.  If you have any questions, just ask.

Remember, this is your home that you are making.  You can take any suggestion and make it your own.

Happy Hunting.   :exclamation:

I have been searching for a van, and I may have found the one.  I am meeting the owner tomorrow afternoon to check it out.  If I get it, I'll post a pic.

Thank you.

I hear you.  The warranty period is over for me, too.  I think the one thing I've noticed is that few seem to hit the exact right vehicle on the first try.  I did quite a bit of weekend rving as a teen, in fact learned to drive on my dad's class A.  I have owned a pull trailer, too, that I bought new some decades ago, but I think I want that innocuous white van so I can go anywhere and don't necessarily have to rent a space in an rv park.  This is my third go-round in fifty years, so not tons of experience, but hopefully enough.  This will be my first build, though, other than a temporary sleeping platform in my pickup.  I'm relatively handy, have tools and a dry place to work.

Thank you.

Regards,

sentient_meat.

It has been very hard to find a good van.  The last one that I thought was in the bag was bought out from under me.  I've been looking high and low in five cities separated by a few hundred miles each.  Tomorrow I am again meeting an owner.  I believe the van is almost exactly to my criteria except it's a passenger van with windows everywhere, and I was planning on a cargo.  Not sure what that will do to interior plans exactly, but I'm willing to take a bit of a chance.

With luck, I'll post a pic soon!
