Is there a device that will let you mount a patio umbrella on a van?

Don't laugh.

Seriously, though, due to my van's high top, I don't think I'll be able to get an awning on it. But I really want shade. So, I was thinkiing...I have a patio umbrella...I wonder if you could mount a patio umbrella on a van?

Obviously, I would keep the umbrella and the pole inside the van while it was moving. Then attack the umbrella when I was stopped.

I do have a base for it, but they are sosooooo heavy, and I don't feel like hauling it in and out of van whenever I want shade.

Just wondering if anyone has tried it? If so, any luck?

Maybe a beach umbrella would be better than aa patio umbrella, because they are much lighter....

Check out "canopies". They are easy to put up, and will give you all the shade you need. They are a tent without sides. You simply stake them at each of the four corners.
