Is there a device that will let you mount a patio umbrella on a van?

Don't laugh. :)

Seriously, though, due to my van's high top, I don't think I'll be able to get an awning on it. But I really want shade. So, I was thinkiing...I have a patio umbrella...I wonder if you could mount a patio umbrella on a van?

Obviously, I would keep the umbrella and the pole inside the van while it was moving. Then attack the umbrella when I was stopped.

I do have a base for it, but they are sosooooo heavy, and I don't feel like hauling it in and out of van whenever I want shade.

Just wondering if anyone has tried it? If so, any luck?

Maybe a beach umbrella would be better than aa patio umbrella, because they are much lighter....

Thanks.

Just screw the bottom bolt in all the way for the bottom of the pole to rest on. Be sure to measure your umbrella pole to make sure it's diameter is no more than 2".

Won't a slight breeze render a high mounted umbrella rather useless, it may lift off like Mary Poppins, or fold inside out quickly ?

My patio umbrella has a vent in the top. The shown mount has a thumbscrew to keep it from lifting out just like a regular umbrella stand. I doubt any umbrella would stand up to the desert wind though.

hitch mount thing is cool BUT with a bigger patio umbrella, would it open and not be smushed into the back of the van.
with a high top it dosen't sound like the pole is higher than the van to open the umbrella to full width?
If the mount is not far enough in length from the bumper it won't allow your umbrella to open I would think?

just wondering on it tho LOL but the hitch is cool idea if it works.

I would imagine the umbrella would have to be opened before installing. It all depends on how high the high top is and how long the pole is.

yea for sure on height situation but nice thing is a small pole extender could easily solve it too if the poster goes with a hitch mount like that. cool

...yes it's called the base...put it on the ground...optimum performance... I speak from first hand experience as I stopped trying to reinvent the wheel..

Ohhhh that is a longer one Brian and it would probably be a better fit for sure.....I like that, longer away from vehicle, put up your umbrella and have instant back porch shade area.....Sweet, it is so cool you looked around for a great one to fit the poster's needs :)

that is so cool....I never seen 1/2 an umbrella like that....and yea I been around but never saw that product...Cool

Watch some of the youtube viieos on the cheap RV living cnannel about using shade cloth. Not only will you get a shady place to sit yor van will also stay cooler.
Plus they can take tolerate moe wind than an umbrella. There is a reason you dont see umbrellas used tethered to vans. It is not practical for full time RV life. But awnings or shade cloth are practical options.

One umbrellas that is useful to take along if you are an artist who likes to paint outside is a pure white umbrella that clamps onto a folding lawn chsir. It needs to be white so you see true colors rather than the color of the umbrella cast onto your drawing or painting.

I just won't use it on windy days.
