When I first moved into my van, I was still working at a night job. It is definitely easier to find a parking that won't be noticed. Beside the heat, it's amazing what would disturb my sleep. The rocking from passing cars, even the barking of a squirrel. A tip for city dwellers looking for shade. You can often find highway or railroad overpasses where parking is allowed. One of my regular spots was right by a passenger train stop where people would just assume I had taken the train into center city.

I sleep at night in usually obvious places like Walmart, a truck stop, etc. But... have no problem taking a daytime nap in the middle of town if I can find the right shade tree... with fans on. I would not want to be totally nocturnal as I like daytime activities. What is the use of parking next to the river if you can't see it? Also, around here the riverside parks close at sunset.
