Hi folks,

I just purchased my conversion van and we are outfitting it for camping. Problem is, following moderate to heavy rain I've got a small puddle in each interior rear corner, and have been chasing this for a week now - to no avail.

I resealed all around each large window and pulled carpeting and pad and epoxy'd every screw hole in the floor. I also removed interior window trim and checked for water with a hose spraying the windows outside - all dry.

I have not investigated brake light seals or 3rd light. Is anyone on this list familiar with this vehicle and problem?

Many thanks.

spray the third light also. mine leaked and the rear rug would be damp after rain

Can you see a drip?

Any rust on top in the gutters?

Look at the roof higher up and see if there is any rust spots. Patch all. With the right stuff. No silicone.

Mine leaked through the brake light and had to make a new seal.

James AKA Lynx

Will investigate these suggestions asap. There is no rust on the vehicle so i think this leak must be a recent development. Bad thing is - like yesterday, we had a light rain on/off all day and into the evening - no puddles until this morning with sun shining. Other words, its taking hours and hours for the water to make its way to the rear floor - which makes leak detection a real pain.

The top gutters look pristine, but i do see a seam - like the fiberglass top is fitted over the gutter in some way? My wife noticed the seam from the ladder. Is this a leak point on this vehicle?

If you have a fiberglass roof, check the seal all the way around where it meets the rest of the van.

OK, got a result.... blasted the hose at rear doors, tail lights and 3rd light for about 5 solid minutes - no leaks. HOWEVER - the water that accumulated in the gutter at the back corner justs sits there - with nowhere to go except as evaporation. This is finding its way inside! To confirm this, i dried the interior corner thoroughly and trickled enough water in the gutter to refill it. Lo/Behold, within 30 seconds, the puddle again started forming under the inside a/c. (Which works perfectly and drains, and does not contribute to the leak).

So, its nice to know how and where, but what do i do with this? Seal it with RTV or JB Weld?

Thanks for all your help!

I will pick up some seam sealer today and will post results later today or tomorrow. Your help is most appreciated.

Make sure you clean and scrub the area well. It should not be shiny. Also you should get about a foot of
Dicor Coating-Ready Cover Tape From the RV store. Works great. cut about 4x the size of the hole. Clean well and scrub and apply. Rub well.

James AKA Lynx

Following up on this problem: We cleaned, and sealed the fiberglass-to-sheet metal seam with seam sealer as advised. Last night it rained for hours and i nervously opened rear doors this morning to find: BONE DRY inside! I have not gotten hold of the Dicor coating tape as yet, our closest RV store is 45 miles away. But, am thrilled to have identified and stopped the leaking problem.

Thanks to all for your help. I posted here as a stab in the dark, but my low expectations were met with fast & very helpful advice, which solved the problem for us.

Will be lurking this forum from now on.

Mike

I feel so smart when I guess right. That doesn't happen very often anymore.

I'm glad you were able to find the leak and fix it. Here's wishing you much dryness.
