Oh queen....please keep us updated!!!

You are in my thoughts.

I hope it passes not just your condo without damage...but the whole association too.

Please tell us what happens

Hello from another Floridian, BoyntonStu in Boynton Beach.

We were on Hutchinson Island in 2004 when Hurricane Francis and Jeanne hit us a few weeks apart. Awful mess.

Our house instantly turned into beachfront property. After the hurricanes passed, they sent snow plows to shovel the sand back onto the beach. We had to deal with about 4" of water in the house. Yucks.

So here we are awaiting Irma and hoping for the best.

Good luck to everyone who is in the path of the most powerful storm in our lifetime.

Be safe!

I've mentioned before that we want to sell our Florida condo to regain our nest egg, and buy something mobile so we can get out and wander.  Now our condo is in the path of Irma and may or may not be viable when this is over.

It's very strange to contemplate the loss of your nest egg, everything you worked and saved for (yes we have hurricane insurance, but not flood insurance as it it four times the cost of our entire policy to add it).  But it's really forced us to look at what we truly want for the future, and in that light it's been a welcome issue and process.

Anyway, it's been an interesting few days!

Praying for you and your condo to be safe. Are you there, or safely out of the way? I've been watching the developments on TV and it's pretty scary to think of anybody being in the path of that monster. Please keep us posted.

Yes, we are in Illinois for now.

That's awful Queen. I hope your condo is safe. I am really ready for this summer to be over. Huge hurricanes one right after another, meanwhile the west is burning to a crisp from wildfires.
Time for summer to just leave.

We are hunkering down and hoping for the best.

A kind neighbor has allowed us to tap into a whole house propane generator 15 Amp receptacle.

Enough juice to run a refrigerator, a fan, and lights for many days.

Thanks for your kind words.

Be calm, collected, and above all safe!!

Fingers, toes and eyes crossed for you, Queen!

If hurricanes are getting worse, maybe it's time for the whole South to get mobile. Than all that they would have to do is scrape the sand off the parking pads.

Keep thinking about it, even though I tell myself there's nothing to be done at this point. I look back on all those years we banked my entire salary, living on less. Friends were buying new house and always had new cars and lots of toys... and we kept on saving so we could retire early and live 100% debt free. Guess on the plus side, even if we lost it all down there, we are still 100% debt free and have some savings.

Hope Irma just fizzles out and leaves everyone alone.

We are married 53 years.
For the first 15 years we never bought a car for more than $1,000.
For some of those years we had 3 cars in case one would not start.

Our neighbors were buying new and I would see them trade them in every few years.
What a waste.

I had a very good friend Jerry that recently died.
When he got a raise he told his wife that they would continue on as if he did not receive the raise and that they would save the difference.

A lot of people can't come up with money to repair their cars that they rely on to go to work.

My perspective is like yours.

Hopefully the storm continues to degrade and you get through this unscathed.

I've been mobile for many years.
Able to dodge weather if needed .
So , then my RV burned !
Now , I have another.......not as nice but it's home.
(funny thing , lost almost everything but people kept giving me things and between that and a local church free clothing I have as much or more than I did before !)
Still the only way to live IMO!!!!!

Whatever happens , keep on keeping on..

Heard from our realtor and our place weathered the storm well. Now we can move on with our plans to sell and get on with our lives. Very good lessons learned throughout this process.

Happy to hear all is well.

My friend in Tampa tells me that the storm made a last-minute turn and didn't hit the Bay as hard as expected. Good news.

But the TV there is reporting over half of all FL residents without power today.

Most everyone I've heard from is without power, from the Keys to Ft. Myers to Daytona.

Bring you galoshes.

So glad to hear your nest egg is safe, Queen. Onward!
