If you are on android phones or tablets, then I think you should look at the google nest cams. (No pun intended)
Lowes has them on sale:

Or you can get them on google website or amazon. The 'wired' nest cam means it has a USB connector that must be active for the camera to work, or they have battery versions, at a higher cost.

I have two of them here at my place and they work well. I can turn them on and off remotely, watch a live stream, and talk and listen thru the app. You can set alerts for things like any movement, animal seen, person seen, camera offline, all the normal stuff.
The video and audio quality are VERY good. The night vision mode is also really good. And you can change the LED indicator to stay on or off when recording, or blink when recording, depending on your preferences.
Downsides:
These nest cams are data-hungry devices. They DO use a fairly large chunk of internet bandwidth when they are ON and recording, so if you have a limited data plan, these will eat up lots of data each month if you leave them on and recording 24/7. We're talking approx 20GB of data each. But you can turn them off thru the app and then manually activate them when you will be away from the rig, then turn them off when you return. They DO need an always-on wifi source, and each camera will occupy a DHCP address (24/7) on your router or hotspot.
They also provide an automatic feature (called presence sensing) to turn the cameras on when your android phone leaves the immediate area, but obviously you have to 'allow' google servers to track your phone for this to work. They are already doing that, but this is another level of tracking if you want that feature.
I guess the one big downside for me is the recorded clips are automatically deleted after 3 hours...but you can sign up for a subscription (about $8/mo) that will save them. If you notice a clip within that 3 hours that you want to preserve, you can download it and it will be saved on your phone.
I would say if you dont need the subscription service, they are a decent solution at a reasonable cost.
If you DO need the clips to be saved (maybe to preserve possible video evidence of a crime) and don't mind a small monthly bill then they might be a very good solution for you.
