Well, i just bought a 1968 kombi camper conversion...to the best of my knowledge anyways ; -). Never even came close to something like this for my very own. So, it was the reality of my life starting - oh yeah where? Off grid?

Okay, where does it, i mean me, go from here? Hmmm, gasppp...whats next?

How cool! Congratulations! You'll have to post some pictures.
What next?... It's the "reality of your life" come true. I'll bet the "what next" will unfold as you keep focusing on your desires, and what makes you happiest. I'm trying to listen for my "what next" also.

Where do you want to go? That's rather the freedom of a camper-van: no plans necessary, go where you wish when you wish.

Nice choice in the van. Easy to maintain mechanically and parts are still available pretty much world wide.

Enjoy.
Hey Von Paul, welcome! You defiantly have to put pics on here, somewhere in my conversions or seen on the road. I just posted pics of a 68 dodge a108 family wagon camper conversion. Look foreword to seeing yours.

First you do some digging around to find a copy of the Volkswagen Owners Guide for the Compleat Idiot by John Muir....That is what got me started in my mechanical life....it will help you understand and do anything you need to do, and believe me you will be getting dirty keeping it alive and running and healthy...

<http://www.amazon.com/Keep-Volkswagen-Alive-Step-Step/dp/1566913101>

This will become your bible...if you don't already have them, start buying metric tools as he tells you in the book.

The good news is they are bone simple to work on, the bad news is that it is good they are simple because you have to work on them all the time.

VW had gone to 12v in 1967 and by 68 had brought out the dreaded sliding side door.

I would join every club and forum I could based on old Vdubs and you will have an enormous support group of VW lovers.

In short I would try to spend as much time as I could getting comfortable with the rig, driving it...get used to "slow" and learning all you can...that is the next step....

Enjoy! you have stepped into a great world!
Bri

Welcome! We had a 1972 years ago-we had a lot of fun in that little camper.

You might find this site interesting. At the very least it should give you some ideas about where you can go and what type of problems you might run into. It's the blog of a couple who bought a restored 1958 VW van and drove it from the farthest point north to the tip of South America then had it shipped across the ocean.
http://www.bumfuzzle.com/Pages/2007/2007_09.php#VW58

Pictures or it never happened!

One of the RTR attendees had a beautiful little camper named Lenny that she had renovated. They attend VW Camper Rally's all over. People are so excited and happy to help the newbies at those types of events.

I still get homesick when I see a VW Camper. Lord I had good times and wnet many places in mine. Do purchase a copy Volkswagen Owners Guide for the Compleat Idiot at your earliest convenience.

Way back when i would drop a penny on a map, if I couldn't decide where to go. I didn't always end up where the penny fell, but I found some great places in between!

The world is now your oyster. Go forth and enjoy! And be sure to tell us all about it. some of us are stuck in our stix and brix and living vicariously through others, such as yourself!

Glad you found us.
