Just completed the purchase of my new (to me) Ford E450 7.3 Diesel with 130K for $10k, which includes all the tools in the truck. The CL listing is still up if you haven't seen it: https://keys.craigslist.org/cto/5588811854.html

It runs awesome...biggest surprise is how nicely it drives, especially over rough roads'n'bumps. I often drive a Ford E350 for work and really don't like driving it because it feels so stiff and uncomfortable suspension-wise...it played a big part in what took me so long to convince myself that I could be happy with a box truck as a platform. A lot of other factors were tipping the scales toward a box truck, so I kinda went into it with the amorphous idea of maybe changing the suspension around at some point down the priority list.

So I have no idea why or what's different, but this E450 rides better than my Express 2500 by a long shot. Fair to say it's still early, haven't driven it much at all, etc, but I'm really feeling pretty positive about it.

Next on my favorite list is the side door...I've never seen a sliding pocket door on a box truck and now that the whole deal is settling in, it's going from "oh nice, it has a door" to "damn, that's really a sweet setup!"  Pics below...I'll include one with me in it to give a better feel for size/scale...I'm 5'9

The "surprise" is the interior height. Sure, I measured it before...but I had so many numbers and different vehicles running through my head that I didn't "really" notice it till I looked at my buddy standing in it who is 6'2".  The ceiling is 7'4" and here's me standing in it:

Another surprise is that the box appears to have a heater of some sort. I'm going to guess its a diesel similar to the espar setups I see in Sprinters...only noticed it when I saw this on dash:

And uncovered this in box:

There are some things I don't know what they are yet, like this between the front seats:

And this in the driver door well:

Well Brad ,you went and did the deed !
Ya Guts A New Home ! Oh my goshk !
Clean slate,,, and a Big'un too !
Have fun with the build.
I had a couple of those heaters in some of my rigs , look underneath and see if there are hoses connecting it to the coolant system.....

I think your better ride thing might have to do with the weight in it loading the springs ....
Is that bag really full of chain? I'm seeing some cool tools , maybe get some of that 10K back?

No clue on the mystery photos except the molex connector next to the "RAM" thingie is probably 12volts , I know, big help huh ?

that head room is sweet,is the thing between the seat right about where a manual transmission shifter might be?

congratulations looks like a fun project, looking forward to seeing what you come up with, with that kind of height you could have a loft with sitting area under it.

That's sweet! You can probably sell those tools for a good bit, but if you're anything like me, it will be hard to part with good tools whether you need them our not. The switch in the wheel well is a master disconnect, in this case probably just wired to disconnect the power from the rear. The way that looks like it was set up, it probably had a large inverter to run the tools at one time. Just trace the wires underneath to see where it goes. The bracket between the seats looks like it was for a removable seat or something. It looks to heavy to have been a computer stand which was my first thought. I really love the sliding side door!

I'm thinking that may be the base for a laptop mount.

Hi BradKW
Looks so nice.
Hope you show us pics of your work with it.
Why are there not more users of box trucks?
They are high and with lots of nice space. What am I missing?

Brad:

Congrats on getting a new rig; it's the perfect vehicle!

The 7.3 mill is the best diesel Ford ever put in their products. I've got one in my 2003 Excursion with 165,000 miles and its better than new. Fuel mileage is finally starting to increase. New it was around 10-12 and now it's getting
up to 16-18. Chatted with a guy years ago with 320,000 miles in his F-350 at the gas station; his fuel mileage was over 22!

Just change the oil every 5000 miles, AND the fuel filter.

Hope to someday meet you and check out your great rig.

Congrats on the new rig!! Can't wait to see what you do with it. :)

I'm currently working my ass off to buy something similar to this. I'm hoping to get the money together in a year or so. I love the truck camper but they don't seem to be made for active full time use. I want to do this indefinitely so I want to get something that will hold up. If I had the money right now I would buy this one:
