I am new to blog forms and am hoping to be able to garner valuable information to make this transition easier.

I am currently waiting for my condo to sell. I am surrounded by my garage sale items waiting for next Sat, 8-7-21, and I sell as much as possible. I close on 8-10-21 and will then be waiting on my check...

I wanted to convert a UHaul but did not want to waste the time (and money sitting around waiting) so I will be buying a used RV or Van.  ANY advice on how to choose a short Class B/C RV or Van would be MUCH APPRECIATED as I have never owned one.

I have been in the "social groove of normalcy" for most of my adult life. Kids are grown, retirement is looming and time for a change. I'm giving myself one year to figure out how to make a living for myself online and live minimally to put away for a better (and simpler) retirement...  Oh Yeah, and see this gorgeous country while doing this.

Thanks for any input. See you down the road...   :p

There is a lot of good information here just start searching and reading latest posts. Welcome!

Find a FB group or forum on whatever RV you are looking at and join and read and ask questions before you buy.

Most of our rules boil down to two simple over-riding principles: 1) What you post should provide good information (like your introductory post), and 2) Any response to someone else's post should make them feel glad they are part of this forum community.

Welcome to the forum. We are very happy to have you here. You hear this suggestion from a lot of people but the best way to get in this lifestyle is a little bit at a time. Start camping for a day or two at a time and then make it longer each time. If you buy a van before you do the build campaign will teach you what you need and what you don’t. Good luck hope you find what you’re looking for.

Hi there, welcome to the forum. I think when you see the RV that's right for you, you'll know it. When you have any specific questions, let us know. I've never bought a Class B or C so . . . can't offer advice. I decided to get a Ford Transit 2 years ago and am still struggling with getting it converted.

Condo sold...  Now shopping for my "meals on wheels" home. Scared, excited, overwhelmed, and SO looking forward to getting out there and meeting my new "neighbors"! See you all down the road!

Hi SusiB,

You don’t say where you live, but as a ClassB owner for 14 years I can tell you there are many different ones out there.

I would start looking at BVans and small ClassC’s within driving distance, and see what you like and don’t like about each.

Don’t be in a hurry to buy something, is my suggestion, but more to get a feel first for what will best work for you.

If you have a friend or family member who knows something about RV’s, pick their brain a bit and be sure to have a reputable mechanic look any potential purchase over.

Might also try some car camping in the interim, or buy an inexpensive tent and get out there a bit, which will help in your decision making.

Good luck to you.

This!

Sure, start looking at vehicles now. But the best way to start is to start with the vehicle and the stuff you already have. All you really NEED to start is a comfortable way to sleep in your current vehicle, and some totes to organize your stuff. If you are intimidated by camping, remember you can camp in your own driveway or a friend's driveway. Then when you're comfortable, try a 2- or 3-nighter at a campground. You don't even need a cooler or a stove, for years my standard short-term camping "diet" was sourdough bread, cheese, apples, and salami. Perfectly adequate for a couple days.

The only way you can know for certain what YOU need to be comfortable camping is to go camping. Nothing else will do.

If you are going to get an RV then I suggest you go on youtube and watch some of the ggeneral videos for new owners that show how to use the basic amenities such as filling and enmpting tanks, winterizing, leveling, using a propane fridge, stove, furnace etc. There should also be some videos about what to check for in the way of issues when buying a used RV.

Be sure you bookmark the best of those videos so you dont have to search for them again. Also you might forget how to do something such as turning on propane and purging the air out of the lines after you have purchased you vehicle. There might not be someone on hand to show you in person what to do all over again. .
