Hi, all and thank you in advance for any assistance.

I’m on the verge of buying a new Ford Transit and putting some basic things in the back to get started as illustrated by Bob Wells recently in a van he took to Alaska.

However, I’m in a bit of a panic over how to put some kind of basic, inexpensive insulation on the van floor to get started. Do you have suggestions on how to do this?

An indoor/outdoor carpet remnant from someplace cheap over a pad of some sort should work in a pinch till you can put a decent insulated floor in it.

Say, John, thank you! Where do I look for such a pad? Do you mean like a rubber mat or XPS foam?

The easiest to install insulating and sound absorbing flooring that is soft underfoot but durable and waterproof are the interlocking, closed cell foam, “puzzle floor mats”. It not only insulated but it becomes your flooring. You can leave as is or top it with another surface later when you have more funds. The individual sections are typically approximately 24”x24”. You can get them in a variety of colors and patterned prints on Amazon or EBay. Harbor Freight sells them in-store only in black, 4 pieces for $9.99. Home Fepot and Lowes may also have them in stock in colors or a wood grain print. They can be cut using a utility knife. If you want to bond the interlocking tabs together acrylic caulk makes a good flexible adhesive choice.
