Well folks, it looks like I may get to join the traveling herd, at least for a short time. Some of you already know that I spent a week in the tornado ravaged southeast volunteering, mainly in Ga and Ala. It jogged a promise I made to myself many years ago... If I ever got the chance, I would return to the south. I spent some time in college in Montevallo ( outside Birmingham, Ala ) and my first marriage was in Atlanta Ga. I enjoyed my time in the south before, and now it looks like I'm going back. As a building contractor, it makes sense to go where the work is, and there is not much going on here in the northeast, and the southeast will be (re)building for years. I am going down several months ahead of my wife and family, and will most likely stay in the bus to save as much money as possible. While this has been a thought of mine ever since joining this forum, turning it into a reality in the next 2-3 weeks is a daunting task, to say the least. Memorial day yard sale anyone?!? So- I am launching soon- with tools. That much I do know. The details will just have to work themselves out. I'd like to think this is an opportunity for me , though unfortunate for many. Also, it appears to be the life change that I crave and go through every 3-5 years that I am overdue for.

That house has sucked us dry for two years. Heard somewhere " when broke people buy old houses, they get broker". Assuming we can sell it at not too horrible of a loss, we will buy something else when Trish joins me. Even the Elcamino is on craigslist Albany. Sell!sell!sell it all! Anyone need a couple teenagers? Stop that! Of course I'm kidding.

Les, Got ya....cut your losses and move on...not a bad idea...I do hear you on the 3-5 year change....my wife is kinda on the 2-3 year track...every two or 3 years she moves on,&nbsp; job and location wise.... The constant seems to be our NM home base which is gratefully paid for and my retirement..<img src="https://vanlivingforum.com/images/boards/smilies/smile.gif" align="absmiddle" border="0"><br><br>We are buying a mobile home in a park in Durango at the moment...not something I had EVER wanted to do again but we can buy it outright and the park rent is far lower than the local rents or prices for homes, and condos....hopefully in 2 or 3 years it will sell to the next person....it is a pretty nice park, no renters...owners only which puts a whole different slant on it...plus it is in a gorgeous place about 3 miles from the local hot spring....<br>Bri<br><br>

Good for you Les! <br>I think it is good to recognize that there are options and variety in life. To paraphrase Thoreau-"Most men live lives of quiet desperation, and too often die with their song still in them".<br>Go for it! get back on schedule- 3-5 shouldn't be a sentence.....<br>Good luck on the sales of stuff and the "money pit".<br><br><br><br><br>

Kate, Brian is not too keen about the move. Krystal, my stepdaughter, is tolerant in the usual 15 year old girl way. Trish is excited- she has most of her family in Fla. and will be much closer to them. She is not crazy about me going several months before her, but the longer I wait, the slimmer my chances of getting in on the " ground floor" or having my choice of where to go. Pretty soon, if not already, anyone who can remotely swing a hammer will be showing up as a contractor. I have made some good friends and contacts, so hopefully it will be easier for me than some others who might be headed there from elsewhere.
