I just read an article that caused me to change how I was going to do things.

https://ca.news.yahoo.com/lafontaine-tunnel-fire-driver-rv-215527752.html
The above link was for November 2015 and probably won't work at some point in the future.

I was planning on running a 100# propane tank in my cube van, but now I will change it to 2 x 40# tanks.
I had searched all over for information regarding this issue but wasn't able to find anything on tank limits, kinda glad
I stumbled upon this article.
Basically just looking to ensure I don't give LEO's or other a reason to hassle me.

Again, this is in Canada, your country/state may have different laws.

While I can't say I understand the pounds versus gallons with regards to propane, it appears a 40# tank contains 10 gallons of propane, so yes, you are correct HDR.

On a similar note I have often wondered if my insurer ICBC will invalidate my insurance if they find I have a 20LB propane tank in my van... hooked to my heater. Its always off when driving and tank is fully closed.

Worse case scenario... I get into an accident and its my fault. Other driver sues for hundreds of thousands. Even though I have 3 million in liability my insurer wont cover me because of propane tank. Is that likely?

I don't think it likely as these tanks have to be transported just to get them filled.  OTOH, if it blew up..........

That is why I figured I'd not go with a 100# tank, it is clearly against the regs and would give insurance a loophole to not pay, now having a couple of 40#ers may not be better, but at least I'm closer to compliance.

It's a good question you ask though, but I doubt we can call our respective insurers as we will only call unwanted attention upon ourselves.

I don't know about everywhere but here in kalifornia it's illegal to transport the tanks inside the passenger compartment. highdesertranger

Even to take them to get filled?
Here it's legal, must be transported upright and have good ventilation, ie; windows opened

yes illegal even to get them filled. I have seen people turned away from the filling station. highdesertranger
