Just starting out, been watching Bob Wells CRVL for a few years, left my job a couple years ago due to disability, my name is Connie, I’m gonna do a few days locally here in az to see if I have what I need?. Very scary for me?, I think time will help, and I got my dog ?.  Well I’m going in my car cause that’s what I got and still paying on it.  But it’s a Subaru Forester and I can sleep in it, I got a tent too.  Well Monday will be my first day, then if I can get  thru a night or two locally I will baby step it out there ?. Will hope to meet others one of these days , maybe a lady’s group??  I’m no young chicken at 60 but I have an adventurous spirit!!  Anyway that’s my intro. ?

Welcome to the CRVL forums! To help you learn the ins and outs of these forums, this "Tips, Tricks and Rules" post lists some helpful information to get you started.

Most of our rules boil down to two simple over-riding principles: 1) What you post should provide good information (like your introductory post), and 2) Any response to someone else's post should make them feel glad they are part of this forum community.

We look forward to hearing more from you.

Welcome, Connie. You've got a good start planned with jumping right in locally and taking it from there. A lot of people, including me, often plan and plan and try hard to get everything right at the cost of nomading time. Sometimes months. Sometimes years. And some, sadly, discover that their window has passed and never get to try it.

In my experience, delay builds anxiety. Chances are really good that you'll be less scared each day of living the life.

Best of luck to you!

Thank you ravella and X, that’s my thing, I don’t want to wait and maybe one day look back and have regrets that I never took that step, and I do think time out there will help my fears of the unknown.  Thank you for responding!!

Thank you wandering rose, like your name by the way ,   I really think I’m ready!! Monday is my day !

Welcome Mountain-lady, I'm new as well, I think a couple of weeks, but time flies!  I'm not out there yet, not sure I will be, but like you, will first try near to home as I haven't camped in 6 years now, and I am 68.  I'm more cautious now, not just because of Covid, but because I know my limitations and to mine own self be true.  I hate to admit I can't do all the things I used to ;)  You'll like the people here, friendliest forum I've ever been on, and so helpful, Denise

Hi shadowmoss,

Yes I’m pretty close about 1.5 hours from you,  was thinking after I camp here in my area for a day or two to make sure I have what I need, then I’ll head out to one of the rim campgrounds, like I said baby stepping it!!  I clicked on your link , I too am still trying to figure out what I wanna do when i grow up lol,  but this is my first step to getting there!!

Hi Goldengirl68,

Im just learning this online forum thing, I am taking the plunge, or leap of faith so to speak and doing it!!  I hope you do the same, it’s nice to meet you!  Well I have a back issue, but it’s not gonna stop me , sometimes I use trekking poles to walk farther, but I’ve been finding in life I can do anything in life a little at a time!! I liked reading about you, astronomy very interesting!! I will have to figure my way around this sight.  I think I clicked the buddy thing for you but don’t really know what it is, but I thought it might help me find people ,  well nice meeting you! Keep in touch with me if you want, I too hope to meet others !

taking it slow is perfectly fine Connie.. for the most part people that are in this life style are pretty helpful, so don't ever be afraid to reach out.

If you are going for an established national forest campground you might start looking on a Tuesday or Wednesday. They fill up fast from weekenders from the Valley. If all else fails, the casino in Payson has free overnight parking and has the convenience of restrooms and food. The back lot is mostly empty now as the entrance on that side is closed, mostly just RVs.

Good to know Shadowmoss, I see the campgrounds fill up fast, I’m only starting with established campgrounds , just to start, then go from there, good to know about the casino. Thanks again !

I hope your first day is going well!  I get the fear because it's got me too!  You're ahead of me by far.. just preparing to order a rig and about 3 years from the road full time.  Good luck!

Welcome Mountain Lady from another "no spring chicken". I am 67 and a single woman and have been traveling full time with a travel trailer for 4.5 years alone. I was traveling for photography and looking back the biggest mistake I have made was not becoming more active with fellow nomads. Take small steps and keep doing what you are doing by reaching out to others and you will be fine. Keep posting about your progress. After being out west for 4 years, I am spending this year on the east coast otherwise would offer to camp with you to get you started. Again best of luck and don't let age stop you.

I did get your request, and sent a little note to you as well.  I'm proud of you to keep doing what you can, a little at a time.  Sometimes that's a better way I think.  When I first started walking for exercise, I thought I had to jog, lol! So I did, and had no fun doing it.  I found out slow walking was good AND fun, because I saw more things, and was building muscle.  I found I was less likely to get any injuries and I never have, knock on wood ;)  I love just taking walks and talking if I get lucky and find someone else walking around our apt. complex.  I'd like to find a group that is active that way, well, that has a few people that are active that way, like to sit around on warm Summer nights and yack.  I miss that, and I've missed it since way before Covid hit ;)
