Hi my name is Roger and I am currently looking for a van to start living out of. When I turned 18 I left home with literally nothing but the clothes on my back. Got a little mazda miata which i ended up being forced to move into for about a year. I'm almost 20 now and realizing even though the miata was cold small and crappy I loved it. Especially when I found a companion. Unfortunately we moved into a place and after recently being laid off from a machine shop I worked at I have to leave. I live in the bay area and honestly if anyone had advice or help for me that would be appreciated. My problem: no money for a van and I really cant live in the miata any more because someone broke 2 of the windows. Thanks. reply with questions plz cause i know i left a lot out.

Roger - Sorry to hear about the windows. They may be a blessing in disguise as they are pushing you into a van. Are you employed at this time? If so, perhaps you could get some overtime to replace the windows. After that, see about trading in the Miata for a van.

Replacement windows most likely would come from a salvage yard. Perhaps you could talk to the salvage yard about a barter - a few days' work for the windows. You would also get an education on the mechanics if you need it.

As to the fan, if you are not going to be moving about then you mostly need a shell. The mechanics are not so important in the short run. After a while you could upgrade to something more mobile.

Do some research on the web - seems the Miatas have a bit of a cult following. There may be a market for yours in its present condition.

Good Luck!!

-- Kevin

Unfortunately I own the last desirable model. It would be more than I paid for the car to make the repairs so im considering it a loss. As for work. No haven't found anything yet and I have been actively looking. The bay area in California doesn't offer the most abundant job market.

Living in the miata was terrible. Getting a van with nothing in it would be amazing. All i would need is curtains and a bed honestly. It would be so spacious considering i was able to fit everything i owned into the trunk of my miata. My friends didn't even know i was living in it. but cops did.

If i had a van i could keep the four seats in it and the back I could make into a bed. Store my duffel between the seats and hopefully find a job. It would be awesome.

I used to tell my friends. "I'm about to say probably the stupidest and smartest thing ive ever said to anyone in my life to you. I actually liked living in the miata"

I had back in that trunk. all my clothes. laundry soap. my skateboard. gas can. spare tire. 3 or four pairs of shoes. separate dirty clothes section. little nick nacks especially boondoggling (im weird like that sometimes). some canned food. my laptop with one of those bases u put it on to keep it cool. my sleeping bag and a pillow. emergency blankets... bag for my work clothes/stuff. and thats about it.

it was bad though i wouldnt want to do that again. it go to a point where it was hard to find a safe place to sleep during the nights so i would sleep in shopping center parking lots during the day and work at taco bell at night. 9PM - 5AM and when i was off i would go out partying or sit at mcdonalds on my laptop or make keychains.
