I figured my first post here should probably be an introduction.
I lived in a 31' RV for about ten years, and that was OK, but was too big to fit in a lot of places. Also, forget about stealth with that rig which is gone now. Then my situation changed and I'm living indoors once more, but I'm on my second van in the past few years, while I'm trying to get the best van for my purpose. The first was a 93 Ford E350. The first thing that happened was the transmission went out. $1700 later I sold it because it consumed too much fuel. (460 with 4:11 gears)
I now have a GMC Safari that gets a confirmed 18 mpg in town. I'm much happier with that, but it has too many windows.
I'm still working on what to do about that, and now I have found this forum. I'm sure I'll learn a lot here.
PS, My other thought was to get a sailboat?
I LOVE sailing, and learned how 15 years ago. Haven't been on one in as many years though.
-Bruce

Welcome to the group Bruce! You'll find quite a bit of useful information here.

Hi, welcome!

We have a trailerable sailboat and plan to tour the country pulling it with some sort of tow vehicle (undecided what type as of now). Might use it as a ghetto RV since it has a sleeping cabin.

If you get a liveaboard type sailboat, you will need to consider mooring fees.

Hey Bruce....welcome from New Mexico. Glad to have you with us..
The van sounds perfect as would a sailboat...I know a number of people who have lived on one for a portion of their lives.

The window issue could well be taken care of with reflectix cut to size...a little oversize actually...and press-fit in. Or there are many other ideas that have been talked about on here...If you do a search on the forum you may turn up some good ideas....
Bri

Hello Bruce and Welcome

Thanks for the warm welcome folks.
Mortisha, My van looks a lot like the one you posted except for being brownish red.
-Bruce

Heya Bruce.... I do like the astro van but I am still looking around at all my options. I have awhile to prepare so I am taking my time and deciding carefully =) Take care HuggZ

Thanks Mortisha, Yeah, I'm still looking at all my options too. I'd like to fix this one up to fit the occasion, but I'm still keeping an eye out for a van with less windows. That and the sailboat keeps calling my name.
Decisions, decisions.
-Bruce

Wow so many new people myself included... Welcome to the nuthouse of alternative living,

~Autumn from Long Island

Thanks again everybody.
bk2valve, yeah, I used the reflectix on a motorhome in the past. Worked great.

@ IGBT, What make sailboat? MacGreggor by chance.
The first boat I learned to sail on was a MacGreggor 25, then sailed as crew on a Cal 30.
I'm thinking about why not a van "and" a sailboat?
Still need to loose a lot of stuff though.
-Bruce
