In the summer of 2008 I had 2 businesses tank. In 2009 I began playing Texas Hold'em for a living. I've gotten pretty good at it. I am going to purchase a used RV and hit the road. My plan is to travel around the US and Canada from casino to casino. In between casinos I want to take in the sights. I want to do it before I get too old to enjoy it. I'm looking forward to seeing some of you out on the road.

Welcome aboard Texas Hold-em!
So , what do you travel in ?
Will you be camping in it ?

Welcome to the CRVL forums TexasHold'em! That's an interesting way to finance your travels. You'll certainly be able to see most of the country while hopping from casino to casino!

I'm not sure what I'm going to get yet. I'm looking at all my options. Since I'm planning to live on the road, I was looking at small class As. But the 6 to 10 miles a gallon has me concerned. So I'm also looking at class Bs. I need to get a minimum of 12 miles a gallon highway at $2.50 a gallon to make it work economically because I plan to do a lot of traveling, only stopping for a few days, maybe a week at a time. Figuring 300 to 600 miles a move, at 6 miles a gallon I estimate that it equates to $125 to $250 a move and probably $1,000 a month just for gas.

At 12 miles a gallon that's only $500 a month. That's a much better number. LOL

I've been traveling locally and on occasion flying out to Vegas. This is just an extension of that. As Spock would say, "It's only logical." LOL I've seen some older Class As for 6,000 to $8,000 with fairly low millage and appear to be in fairly good shape. At that price, if it only lasts a year I can just get a new one and if I don't like living on the road I can just get rid of it. I would pay that much in rent just to rent a room. And if it lasts longer than a year it's total gravy. It's the 6 miles a gallon that has me concerned.

Welcome to the forum!

If I can give some advise - seriously consider either a Class B or a van that you can outfit yourself.

The B will give you everything that an A would (built in furnace, water heater, holding tanks etc) that an A does with a whole lot better gas mileage. Some of the layouts are cramped IMO simply because the manufacturer tries to build in everything that an A has!

A van that you outfit yourself can give you the better gas mileage you want and the opportunity to only add what you want and need in the way of facilities.

There's a whole section here on van conversions. Some of us have documented the why and how of our builds for future reference. Also we're very good at helping out with ideas/critiques both in the planning stages and the actual build.

An older A in that price range is more liable than not to nickel and dime (actually $100 bill you... :D ) and still only get 6 mpg! They're not beng sold for cheap because they are in wonderful condition. IIWM, I'd also have to worry about whether or not it is going to get me to the next gig on time!

If you really feel that you need the living space of an A but want better mileage and the B's are too small for you, take a look at some of the smaller C's. They are a compromise between large living quarters and better gas mileage.

Just in case you have not seen Reducto's threads on this forum, I wanted to mention him. He is a professional poker dealer who travels the country to work at tournaments. He's discussed how one gets trained and the pay rates, etc.

I realize you plan to be on the other side of the table, but felt you'd be interested to look up his discussions.
